No contact from water company

Since I bought my house (with meter, as per water searches carried out), I've not had a bill!

Gas and electricity, the sellers told their supplier and I received a welcome letter. Council tax similary sorted and direct debit set up.

The water meter I took a photo as soon as I collected the keys and first visited, then again at my 1 year anniversary.

When do you think they'll catch on? Are the previous couple still paying it? According to the estate agent (I know!) where they were moving to would be under the same water company.

I've not lost sleep, have (and will continue to) bank the savings. If it gets past 6 years, will that be the limit the water company can ask for?

--Savings: 26/09/14 the day I reached 100k, 24/07/20 200k, 23/08/24 300k
Completed on first house 2025 mortgage-free
Student Loan paid off 03/07/24
Savings £39k

Don't know if you know who you're water provider is herea a link.

If you do know then disregard.

I would contact them and try to set up an account as then if they don't bill you for years then you will have proof that you tried and they should waive most of the arrears.

As for old owners I wouldn't think they would still be paying as if they have an online account then they would get the bills and as water prices have gone up they would of been informed about DD increase.

Have the water company sent anything to your home address?

Yes, I know who the water company is! I'm not bothered if they bill me now, year 5, 6, 8 or 10. The money will be there. For year 1, I'm in it for about £175 of standing charges and less than a fiver a cube (supplied and taken away).

In reply to your last question, it is my home address. I'm on electoral roll, I pay my single occupancy CT, gas, electricity, mobile phone, car registered here. Just no contact from the water people at all. Nothing untoward on Credit Karma either.

Isn't it incumbent on a new occupant to be proactive in setting up accounts with the bodies providing their utilities?

Can see the advantage if the money is earning 5% in your own account rather than WaterCo's, but think you need to take some responsibility for engaging with them.
