Cancelling 6 Month Membership
I am a member of DW gyms, joined on the 19th of December on a 6 month contract at £32 per month. The first payment was £42 and I went to the gym to cancel for next moth giving 30 days notice before the next payment. The woman who was handling the cancellation said that I would have to pay for June as well as May as…

Recycling / donating used running shoes
I have a few pairs of running shoes that I no longer wear (replaced because of mileage), as do some of my colleagues here in the office. We are looking at ways to donate them to a charity. I know that Up And Running stores have a collection point in stores (which we dont' have one near us anyways) but I see that they go to…

Joined a gym - tips needed!
I've signed up for an opening offer at a new gym locally that opens tomorrow. Went to look round whilst it was a bit of a building site - looks really good. It was a £9.99 a month offer and you stay paying that on a rolling monthly payment - no contract can cancel at anytime. Want to lose some weight and get healthier. Its…

I'm getting old and grumpy - pet hate!
I actually growled at someone at gymnastics class for saying they "didn't want to build muscle, just tone up". ARGHTHEREISNOSUCHTHINGASTONING!! ...sorry. I feel better now. Maybe I should have put this in the Vents section? ;) Anyone else got a fitness pet hate? HBS x

Gym membership continued to charge for 18 months after cancellation?!
Firstly I know i should have cancelled the direct debit and checked my bills, but I only get a yearly statement for this account. I started a gym membership back in 2011 for £52 per month. When I moved away at the end of 2013, I called and spoke to a rep to cancel. It was my recollection that everything was done and…

Problem with phantom payment!
A friend and I had a problem with our university sports centre a small while back, we resolved it at the time but I would be interested in knowing how others would have dealt with it. We booked and prepaid an induction session (for using the climbing wall). It was only about £10. A week later we turned up to the session…

Hi all I was wondering if anyone has tried Classpass? It it gives you access to lots of (very expensive) fitness studios in London for an upfront fee. I tried a one week trial with them for £10 and it was very fun trying out yoga, pilates and barre in London. www.classpass.com The next options for full membership are:…

Pruhealth with Virgin
Hi guys I've had a bit of a read on here and there seems to be mixed reviews. Basically the Bracknell Virgin Active is very near to me so I am considering joining with my wife. We are members at a 'normal' gym currently but wanted the benefits of a swimming pool and spa etc. There's one thing for sure, you don't get a…

Cancellation of gym membership.
Hi, Me and my girlfriend got a joint membership for a gym with North county leisure part of BeAtive Newcastle. We used it quite a bit but now due to other commitments we have been unable to go and tend to just do our own thing like running outdoor and fitness DVDs. We need to cut costs and currently pay £60 per month for a…

Personal Training
Hi  Appologies, I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, but I shall ask it anyway! What's the cheapest way to get fit with a personal trainer? I'm looking to lose at least a stone, if not more, as well as getting fit and lean/toned (I have a VERY high percentage of body fat  ) I joined…

'Aerobic exercise'... a myth..?
As they say, if you can't measure it, it doesn't exist. 'Right now, Mr X', says the doc, 'it would be peachy if you could do 30mins of aerobic exercise per day.' 'Great,' says Mr X, 'so kindly tell me what device/gadget/chart/scale will tell me whether what I'm doing is "aerobic"'. 'Ah...' says the doc... 'Er...' says the…

Pedometer
I have just been sent a free pedometer (a normal one) and I was wondering the best place to wear it on my belt. Front, side or back? I had it on the front today and it registered 2.4km when I know that I did almost 5km. There were no instructions with it and I can't find a way to set stride length. Anything?

Next seasons football shirts
I am trying to think of some good 30th birthday presents and I know a football shirt would go down well, but my husband currently has the most recent local football club shirt/Barcelona and Argentina. When do the new ones tend to get released? And is it usually the same for smaller clubs as well?

Garmin freak asks.....
bought myself a Garmin Fenix 3 Performer last week and have found myself in a bit of a dilemma. Do I use the Fenix for running and swimming and activity tracking OR the Foreunner 620, Swim and VivoFit respectively? Edge 1000 is much better than the Fenix for the bike so will carry on using that.

Cycling clothes not lycra
Apologies if this has been done before, can't get the search working. I've started cycling to work over a reasonable distance (15 miles each way) and think I need some more suitable clothing. Has anyone got any suggestions of brands that are good for cycling but font don't make me look like I'm cycling the tour de France?

Anyone use Freeletics?
I've recently noticed this app and it looks like something that might suit me. Does anyone use it, is it any good, and is the free part ok on its own or do you need to pay to subscribe to get any real use out of it?
