Non-cycling specific shoes - skate shoes. As they have thicker, less flexible soles.
Lidl/Aldi quite often have touring/mountain bike cycling shoes in their cycling sales, these have a much stiffer sole than normal shoes. Wouldn't want to walk miles in them but they are much better for cycling.0 -
Thanks frisbeej I'll have a look next time I'm there.SCP # 034

Cheap trainers with a rigid sole work for me on the hack bike (have road shoes and pedals on best bike), walking shoes may work also. As suggested some mountain bike shoes would probably be ideal. You may want to consider some clip in pedals also if your starting to venture further and more often.
As a temporary measure have you also tried different foot positions on the pedal - with clip in shoes my point of contact is quite far forward, with trainers and ordinary pedals it is just behind the ball of the foot as this feels more secure.

Thanks Daivid for the useful tips. Might get the trainers out again and try different positions on pedals then look at what I need.SCP # 034

Aldi only usually have cycling gear in as part of thier special buys events.
good news is that the mountain bike event starts next week.

I'm currently using a pair of standard £10 Aldi trainers. They're very light, have thick soles for pedal pins and I wont mind so much when they get trashed.
I have some spd Aldi mtb shoes also but they're quite heavy.0
