Recycling / donating used running shoes

I have a few pairs of running shoes that I no longer wear (replaced because of mileage), as do some of my colleagues here in the office. We are looking at ways to donate them to a charity.
I know that Up And Running stores have a collection point in stores (which we dont' have one near us anyways) but I see that they go to a profit making company. Does anybody know of any charities that might use them to give to disadvantaged individuals (doesn't matter what part of the world).
Have searched online but no real success so far.

Cancer Research shops recycle them if they cannot sell them. Similarly Oxfam I believe.ally.0
