Cancelling 6 Month Membership

I am a member of DW gyms, joined on the 19th of December on a 6 month contract at £32 per month. The first payment was £42 and I went to the gym to cancel for next moth giving 30 days notice before the next payment. The woman who was handling the cancellation said that I would have to pay for June as well as May as December was a "Pro Rata" month despite this not being in the terms and conditions. Any advice?

you did not pay for the whole of December if you did not join till the 19th, I assume your first payment of £42 was the £32 for January and £10 for the remainder of December
Depending on the terms in the contract, the contract may end 18th June in which case you would be due a part payment for June
If you did not pay anything for June then you would only have paid for 5 months and the £10 for the few days in December
