Core stability training for beginners

I'm currently attending a training course to become a PT with a large training provider. I've been left feeling very disappointed with the quality of training and its completely knocked my confidence. One area I'm struggling with is core stability. The amount of training amounted to 45 mins where it turned out to be more of a competition as to how long someone could hold a plank for than telling us about the benefits and reasons why you would teach someone how to perform a plank.


Anyway, I'm waiting for feedback from the training provider but in the meantime I'd like to gain a greater understanding into core stability especially for beginners. Would anyone be so kind as to point me in the direction of some good websites where I could build on my knowledge whilst I wait for the trainer to come back to me.
