Does anyone here know how much it costs for a membership to David Lloyd gym?

I was looking on their site, but it means someone contacting me or visiting them, and I don't want to do that. I just want to know what their prices are for memberships.

I am paying £24 at my current gym and it's good enough and it's 24 hours which i like, but i was looking into gyms with swimming pools too, which David Lloyd gym has.

I was just wondering if any of you have used this gym before and what are the average costs of memberships there? I am going to continue to look online for further info, but if anyone here belongs to that gym then it would be good to hear what you pay monthly.

You can rest assured it will be much more than the £24 you are paying, even if you were with a corporate deal and joining fee.
Depending how you handle the sales reps, you can get the info you require without a call back or visiting them. Same with any leisure gym place not just DL.

It is VERY expensive. My local one is £98 a month. I really wanted to join, mainly for the outdoor pool, but I just couldn't justify it.

There's a whole thread about it, here:- https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3326054
  • Expensive. In Hatfield, a 3 month contract costs £80 off peak and a 12 month is £68 off peak. This is until 4pm weekdays and after 2pm weekends.

    Peak membership £100 plus!

I have peak time membership at David Llyod- primarily for the swimming facilities/opening hours.

I dont really use it for anything else.

I pay £74 a month and that is with an NHS discount. I also get 1 month free as I cancel each year and then rejoin on the offer of one free month, so overall it works out a bit less than £74 per month.
  • David Lloyd are dishonest... be careful

I joined DL with husband, however after 3 months he was diagnosed with Pericarditus (Heart Condition) and consequently could not exercise. He contacted DL and even visited and they advised that there was nothing he could do as we had signed a 12 months contract (note pre OFT ruling).

Anyway, he didn't/couldnt go for 3 months - once he had recovered I started to look into the t&cs and discovered that they should have advised that he could suspend his membership until he was better (at no cost) then restart and it would continue until the 12 months was complete. I was outraged that they had mislead him, particularly when he was pretty stressed by the whole illness. So at this point I decided to cancel membership at the earliest possible date.

There is a window of opportunity when cancelling DL membership, if you advise 30 days prior to the end of the 12 month period then the contract will finish. If you leave it one day over..then you have to give 3 months notice.

Armed with this info, I visited DL and took our cancellation letter. Firstly the DL rep advised that I couldn't cancel and had to give 3 months notice, which I knew was wrong. Then he said he couldn't accept the letter as my husband was there and how did they know if was his signature. I said you check against the contract and find the signatures match. They refused as they said that they needed to see him sign in person. This is utter nonsense, I said that your T&C say you can accept cancellation letter by post....they conceded.

Then I asked to see the manager, I advised that his rep had misled me and said I had to give a further 3 months notice (so membership 15 months in total). When in fact if they received my letter that day it was only 1 months notice (total 12 months membership) They conceded that I was right.

I asked why the rep had misled me the manager said, he wasn't trained and it was a mistake.

    They are dishonest.

For this reason I would never join DL or recommend them

I think I paid ~£50 2/3 years ago. Was one in Oxford.

Curious to understand why one would pay so much money for "swimming"? Is a local pool not good enough or maybe other gyms in the area?

For all you know the member of staff wasn't trained properly and did make a mistake.

Why didn't you read the contract in the first place and then go to DL.
