Capital Gains Tax Allowance and stocks
The tax free allowance for capital gains is £3,000 a year. If I buy stocks for £10k and they have gone up to £15k and I then I sell for £3k to take them out. Have I then used my capital gains tax allowance? Is it a smart thing to do to get £3k a year?

Crypto
Have read a few comments on here and TrustPilot about the £200 investment in Crypto and GCW Management Ltd. Regrettably my experience is like so many others and my link to a so called Financial Advise was obtained through this website which I know now was AI generated, so no disrespect to you all. I had no reason not to…

Bond fund yields
I have a few
questions about bond fund yields. First, what is the best way to get an
accurate forward/distribution yield? Is HL accurate, showing eg 3.97% for Fidelity’s
gilt fund? Second, to what degree is
there a correlation between a gilt fund and a nominal gilt with a similar duration
(or is it the maturity of the fund…

Transfer ISA from T212 not possible?
I signed up to Monument but they don't allow transfers in from T212, I haven't got more than 20k in, so can I just withdraw it and put it back into the Monument ISA or does it have to be transferred to another provider first?

I just noticed this month's interest payment was lower than previously so assume this is due to the bonus expiring - for Issue 2. What is the best way to renew this to get the new Issue 4? Best place for a small amount of savings for easy access.
Hi I have a small amount of savings that I want to keep handy but in an account that is paying more than the paltry 1.15% I am getting from my bank. For clarity, ISA's allowance for both of us are filled for this year. Currently have other savings in place, hubby is a 40% tax payer so only has savings that will qualify for…

SORRY MARTIN, PREMIUM BONDS NOT SO SAFE AFTER ALL.
This is a cautionary tale about Premium Bonds. In Martin's blog he describes Premium Bonds as absolutely safe in that you cannot lose your initial investment however long you may have had them. That has not been my experience! I bought 40 bonds about 50 years ago and decided to check them a few weeks ago. I discovered that…

What to do with my shares?
I have shares in Diageo from a previous job there. The value has more than halved from £40 in 2022 to £18 now. I am considering taking £5000 a year and placing it in to my workplace pension through salary sacrifice, which with tax relief would increase the value to £25 I believe. The other possibility would be to move it…

Pay underpaid tax now or leave it?
I've just received a letter from HMRC saying that I underpaid tax in 2024-2025. This is because the amount of interest on savings they estimated I would receive in that year was less than the actual amount. They say I can pay £650 now or else they will take the amount out of my Civil Service pension by means of the tax…
