Index linked gilt tax question
For ilg are both the indexed linked element of the coupon and the index linked element of the gain both untaxed. So is a low coupon ilg roughly equivalent a normal gilt in regards to reducing overall tax on interest when compared to regular cash savings accts...?

HL Active Savings
I'm looking to get peoples thoughts on the HL Active Savings account. I already have a SIPP with HL but have also got money sitting in my bank's savings account earning a very small amount of interest. I was considering putting £10k of that into an Active Savings account because of the ease of moving from one savings…

HMRC - Payments on account
HMRC state on their tax return "If your 2 payments on account turn out to be different from your 2025 to 2026 tax bill HMRC will: • credit you with interest if you've paid more than you needed to • charge interest if you've paid less than you needed to" I can understand the first bullet point if they've over charged me but…

Tax Due On Savings Interest.
I’m confused about tax due on savings interest received in 2024/2025. I was registered for Self Assessment and submitted a tax return for 2023/2024. My circumstances changed for 2024/2025 and I informed HMRC recently that I didn’t need to submit a tax return for the last tax year 2024/2025. However, I informed them that I…

GIA Taxes on accumulating ETFs
The learned discussion of the complicated tax implications for CSH2 in the other thread has got me thinking: As mentioned in some previous threads I've generally done investment inside an ISA in the past, but have used up all my allowance this year so have been putting some extra into stocks in a GIA. A good chunk of this…

Premium bonds winnings and odd pattern
Hello. I'm guessing that this is an age-old topic, but here we go... My wife and I both have had premium bonds for quite some time, and I have records of all of our purchases of bonds and wins from April 2022. There may be a very minor discrepancy in our holdings over time, but we have basically tracked each other with our…

Major issue with Skipton interest payments on savings accounts... again
This isn't the first time with Skipton it seems, but my annual savings account with Skipton matured on the 6th April and no sign of the interest being added. No emails or communication from Skipton highlighting that there is an issue either which is really poor. Contacted customer support and they have confirmed that there…

Savings account allowing standing orders?
I'm sure this has been asked before, but can't find it. Is there a savings account paying reasonable interest that allows me to set up recurring payments to my bank account. I want to smooth my retirement income without having to intervene regularly. The only options I've found so far are Chase, but their rate is only 2.5%…

Cahoot online banking issue
Been trying all day. When I log into my online banking, it then takes me to my home page. Then whenever I click pretty much anything on my online banking screen, it logs me out automatically. Anyone else having this issue?

Regular savings vs easy access..?
Specifically First Direct at 7%. I get that you don't get 7% on everything all the time. Only the first amount gets it for the full year, so on & so forth so in a roundabout way the account works out at an overall percentage less than 7. So I ran the MSE calculator to see what would be better - this fixed rate regular…

Cahoot Log on - temporary password needed?
Hello, anyone with similar experience? I opened a new account with Cahoot and got 2 letters with username and temporary password and temporary security number but when I logged on for the first time it didn't ask for the temporary password only to set up a new one. Is this normal? I tried calling and couldn't get through -…

I wonder if anyone can help. My mother sadly has passed away and i knew she had a savings account with the online Post Office. She had this account as a savings for when she passed to pay for her funerals expenses. I only have a account number and password for the savings account for online. I have the last 4 digits of her…

Principality RS 6 Month Maturity Issue
I posted this in the RS Discussion Thread originally a few days ago but it got a bit swamped by the MonBS discussions. Principality 6 Month RS Iss 2, mine matures 3/9. Also have EA Iss 7, Christmas RS and 6 Month RS Iss 3.Maturity option selected to convert the RS Iss 2 into (another) RS Iss 3 at 7.5% AER fixed and pay in…

EQUFUND
Is anyone else having difficulties with EQUFUND? Since March of this year, they seem to have stopped responding to any contact by email or telephone. We have had personal investments with EQUFUND over a number of years, despite the understood risks, and they have always paid the agreed rates of return, mostly on time. When…

Anyone heard of Century21?
I have been cold called by this company, asking if I would be interested in investing in the 'Tyram Lakes Mini-Bond'. Now, don't worry, I have NO intention of investing anything, and would never do so with a 'company' that has cold called me. However, I'm just interested to hear what their angle might be. Their web site:…

Spend Savings from Cash ISA or Savings Account?
I have just moved house and am having to spend some of my savings to buy furniture etc (approximately £2,000 required to spend) but my savings are spread between a Cash ISA and a higher-interest savings account. I am trying to work out what is the more economical way of spending these savings (ie. which account to remove…

ISA vs JISA
I've saved around £12k for my child. It's currently in a regular ISA (in my name) that matures later this month. I've been considering putting £9k of it into a JISA, but tbh, I don't really understand what the benefit would be. Regular ISAs appear to have better rates and be more flexible, and I'd also end up having to…
