FirstBank - any good?
Hi I'm considering a FirstBank 2 year fixed rate bond. They are in the MSE 'What We'd Go For' recommendations (and FSE protected) but the Trustpilot reviews for this bank are poor and their website has a distinctly amateurish look about it! Anyone got any direct experience of a bond with this company? Or tips to impart?…

Royal Mail Shares
Has anyone been paid out for their Royal Mail Shares ? I didn't reply to the initial communication as I couldn't find my share certificates. It did say that a reply was not essential. I received a form to claim 'my payout', as a 'dissenter' some time later. I could not locate all certificates, but again, it said this was…

Tax on savings
I'm a basic rate taxpayer but my better half doesn't work. I'm likely to inherit money from my late mothers estate. It's big for us, probably likely to be about £75k. My question is could my wife invest it in savings and therefor not pay tax on the interest or would we fall foul of HMRC. I'm thankfully now debt free so…

If you inherited £20k, what would you do with it?
For context- when my Grandad passed, money from the sale of his house was put into a Trust, ready for me when I turned 21. I have used a large proportion of this money for a deposit on a house, and so I now have roughly £20k left over. I have an additional £5.5k invested into a Trading 212 Stocks ISA, investing into the…

Tax on income and savings
My salary takes me over the 40% tax bracket as I earn £51890 per annum. I do a salary sacrifice into a DC pension which is 10% of my salary and amounts to £5189 per annum. This makes my taxable salary £46701, i.e. 20% tax payer. My question is - am I a 20% tax payer with regards to interest on savings because of the above,…

Savings Platforms - Worth It?
Just spent the morning investigating savings platforms and noticed, on average, a significantly lower interest rate offered compared to saving directly with the bank/building society, ranging from 0.1% to 0.8%. Whilst I didn't check every single account offered by every savings platform (and some didn't show such details…

Bond fund to replace VLS
Hi, I am looking to move one of my investments (Vanguard Lifestrategy 80 Acc within an ISA) into a Bond fund.
