Old Style Friday 8 June
Good morning everyone! Another overcast one here, but will get some time outside, later, to talk to my veg. Just heard a report on the news that many British adults have no idea where where food comes from  . Maybe we should set up an *Old Style working party* going into schools to educate the young :D Will see if I…

fancy cold cooked chicken for a salad?
I tend to buy my chickens whole and then joint before using and freezing. I have some pieces that I would like to use for tomorrows salad dinner. How can I make them into something tasty? I was thinking along the lines of some tikka chicken peices as seen in the supermarket. Though I am open to suggestions. Cheers

Feeding burnt jam to rhubarb plant?
I originally posted this in the gardening forum and someone suggested I come over here instead. I tried to make 8lbs of rhubarb jam last night and had a disaster. A new and faulty jam thermometer meant the whole lot burnt in the pan and marched on beyond it's setting point, leaving me with a large amount of unusable…

Help Me Find My Recipe Please!
Years ago, I used to make this lovely apple cake. It was really easy to do and all it consisted of was a sponge and some apples and cinnamon - all you did (from what I can remember) was mix the sponge mixture up, add some sliced apples and cook it! It was a really deep sponge though, one of those big cakes, if you know…

Home made Kit Kats?
We're having afternoon tea over on DFW (please feel free to come join us) and we got onto the subject of liking Kit Kats, but not wanting to put money into Nestle because of their lack of morals in advertising. I had a thought that surely it wouldn't be too hard to try and make your own version of a Kit Kat - my thought…

Hi, sorry for being so ignorant but I'm currently bulk cooking some food for my 4 year old dd with the intention of freezing small portions. Cottage pie cooking at the moment. Question is, how long do you have to reheat things for? Do I have to defrost it before I cook it or can I cook from frozen - if so how long do I…

Easy to warm up dishes ?
My DS and I always seem to want to eat at different times. I'm fairly new to the Old Style and cooking in general and I have been generally cooking curries, chillies and shepherds pie but this isn't working out too successfully as I'm very wary of reheating rice so the rice dishes and I don't want to be spending my evening…

What can I do with leftover Lemon Tart mix?
Hi, Made a really nice lemon tart yesterday for a friend's coffee morning, from a BBC food recipe. The trouble is, the recipe didn't specify what size of pastry case to use so I still have about a pint of lemon/egg/double cream tart filling in the fridge! I used a bought case and haven't any others to just make another…
