Home made Kit Kats?

Storm

We're having afternoon tea over on DFW (please feel free to come join us) and we got onto the subject of liking Kit Kats, but not wanting to put money into Nestle because of their lack of morals in advertising.
I had a thought that surely it wouldn't be too hard to try and make your own version of a Kit Kat - my thought was a couple of ice cream wafers covered in melted chocolate & left to cool - but wondered if anyone had attempted anything similar themselves?
Thanks for any tips, advice, conjecture (if I'm the only person in the world ever to think to try this!)

Without being able to answer your question, I can assure you that you're not the only person to think this! I was having a very similar conversation with my kiddlies in the car only yesterday!
I do hope someone comes along soon, I love kit kats!

Just checked out the pimp that snack site. Wow that is a big kit kat lol. But I noticed that the middle is made from mashed up kit kats, which the op doesnt want to use.
What about, following on from the chocolate and wafer idea, either a chocolate butter icing or a plain butter icing spread thinly in the middle?

Reading this thread reminded me of a recipe I got from a friend years ago and haven't made for ages. Might have a try at the weekend...... !
Caramel wafers / biscuits made using Ryvita..... actually a lot nicer than it sounds, and would challenge anyone to identify the ryvita once they're made !! Bit fiddly so probably fun for kids/teenagers to make (toffee making bit supervised, of course !).
2 packets of ryvita
1 small tin of condensed milk (avoid Nestle if you prefer)
4oz golden syrup
4oz margerine/butter
3 blocks of chocolate
Dessicated coconut to decorate (if you like - or white chocolate to drizzle)
Arrange ryvita in a line - smooth side up, then down, then up etc
Boil toffee ingredients (c. milk, syrup, marg) until thick and toffee coloured
Spread toffee on each ryvita then pile three ryvita together.
Cut each pile into four (like logs/kit-kat fingers)
Dip into melted chocolate to coat, then into coconut (if using)
Drizzle with melted white chocolate (if using).
Now I've written it all down I suspect its cheaper (and less fuss and mess !)to buy own brand wafer biscuits, but HEY, sometimes the long way round is more fun !0
