Chocolate chips - where to buy in bulk?

I've been baking a good few things with chocolate chips in them lately - where can you get a big bag? So far, I've only seen them in 100g bags!

If you have a cake-craft shop near you, they may well have big bags of choc chips.

Or if you've got a weigh and save nearby - then you can get as much as you want!

They sell giant tubs of them in Macro! Works out much cheaper than little bags if you use lots.

I switched instead to buying a big block of cooking chocolate and chopping it up. Works just as well and is so much cheaper.

I found that info very helpful :) It is easy to assume that places like 'weigh and saves' are cheaper so thanks for that.

I agree. I've tried "weigh and saves" but find the stuff to be either no cheaper or more expensive, and not as good quality.

Merchant Gourmet, online. They do fab choc drops, http://www.merchant-gourmet.com/osb/showitem.cfm/Category/79. They have 55% cocoa, 72%cocoa, milk and white. They come in 2Kg boxes. Free delivery on orders over £25.
  • I've recently been buying M&S Organic ones, 59p for 70g (and they are absolutely fab). Recently they have been on offer "Buy 3 pay for 2" so were working out about 6p per gram (same as the Merchant Gourmet ones mentioned above, if my maths hasn't let me down again!).

Instead of buying chocolate chips I get one of the cheap 25p bars of chocolate from Morrisons and wizz it into small pieces in a blender. Have found it works very well in cakes.
