Hiya. I saw this earlier on a thread & when I nipped to the shops earlier I grabbed some jelly & tip top but now I'm not sure if tip top is going to be ok, wasn't it condensed milk I should be using? Does it make a difference?
Jelly is cooling now lol you would think i'd make sure first wouldn't you
Any help appreciated.

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

hi
I use condensed milk for this, sorry. I haven't used tip top before so I don't know what its like but I guess it might be ok if you can whip it up - the mousse texture comes from whipping the milk up to get bubbles into the mix.

I use evaporated milk for this, and that works fine. I'm sure tip top will be just as good, it's just a matter of using something milk-like that's been whipped-in to airate the jelly. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

I normally use condensed milk for this but it'll be good to see how yours turns out and if tip top is a good substitute.
Have a look here to see the differences in tip top and condensed milk.

lol I'm feeling a bit wussy about trying it now. What if it turns out absolutely awful. I've never tried the poor mans mousse before so would be unable to compare. Just thought it would be worth a try as I've got my friends 2 children here aswell at the moment (she's had a heart attack). Oh decisions lol.

Go for it Helen!:D
They have nothing to compare it with, and it'll probably turn out lovely anyway! The worst that can happen is nobody likes it:rotfl: :rotfl:

edit: I hit submit before saying I do hope your friend will be OK. She must be very young for a heart attack. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

Lol ok I'll go for it but if its awful I'll blame this site
You are right my friend is only young. 38 & has had 2 heart attacks, they just aren't sure why. Feeling useless but at least I can help out with her children while she recouperates.

My mum used to give us jelly mixed with yogurt when we were little, without whipping the yogurt. It set just fine and tasted great
I'll bet your tip-top version will work just as well, even if it's not as frothy as intended (but I think you can whip tip-top?)
Let us know how it works out!0 -

ok the tiptop Jelly is in the fridge. It didn't whip very well or maybe I was too impatient and not really expecting it so I gave up a little early lol. I dipped my finger in though & it tastes nice enough so even thought it won't be a mousse it should be edible enough
Thanks for all your help
