switching via MSE energy club
my super cheap collective switch tariff with british gas is due to end. I plan to stay with them, going onto their capped tariff. I could switch direct but the tariff is on the cheap energy club and is eligble for the 30 cashback. Could I do that seeing as I am staying with British Gas though?

installing a new Gas Boiler
Cutting a long story short here, but I have had a rogue builder who has done a lot of bad work in the house. My question is this.. he fitted a new gas boiler and is not Gas Registered... am I right in believing that this is illegal even if he says that he was going to get it checked out by a gas registered person at a…

economy radiator company
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has heard of 'the economy radiator company', the reason I ask is that our two bedroom house has two storage heaters downstairs and nothing upstairs so they are next to useless. What this company offers is electric heating that is a cheap alternative to gas installations but with a similar…

Choosing the right heating for a bungalow
Hi. Im looking to install new central heating in my bungalow, ideally heating and instant hot water in one system, no water tanks. I know there are lots of threads about this, I have read some of them. Unfortunately with so much information and different opinions I'm confused. So I'm asking those who actually know…

combi boiler overflow pipe leaking
Hi, I currently have a Worcester high-low 400 gas combi boiler. Recently water has been dripping out of the copper pipe overflow outside my house. I have checked the water pressure gauge and its showing nearly 3.5 bar. The expansion tank did show signs of slight leakage and when I pressed the air valve it didn't expel…

Buying a new house and unsure on the set up?
Hey all, I'm buying a house which has been modified by the current owner, basically their is no radiators upstairs anymore and no boiler at all. There is a gas fire downstairs and to heat the water it uses a solar panel on the roof which gives boiling water throughout the summer but only around 20% during the winter. This…

Boiler not producing hot water
Hi all Boiler is a Main Combi 24 HE. I need some advice on where to go from here. We moved into our rented house Dec 2015, and the boiler hasn't ever produced hot water - it gets to about 40C in the kitchen (with the hot water temp on the boiler set to full), but the shower and bath get lukewarm at best. It will also go…

Electricity Switch
I recently did an electric switch comparison online and the cheapest was a company call Iresa Ltd. Just wondered if anybody has any experience of them. I'm all for saving but when it's a company I know nothing about I don't want to end up suffering with bad customer service or other problems just to get a cheaper deal.…

LPG Tumble Dryer
I have had gas tumble dryers for many years and find them very economical. I am moving house to an area which does not have gas and I see it is possible to buy an LPG Tumble Dryer. Does anyone know if they are economical when there are no other LPG products used in the property. Any help would be appreciated.

What's the best heating for an old stone house?
I am currently trying to work out the best central heating system for a very old stone cottage, which currently has a Rayburn that has been condemned and a few storage heaters dotted around! I am trying to find the best option for the long term money wise (already guessing it will be a big investment initially), as we may…

AGA query
Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help us out on something. We're having the kitchen redone, and have inherited an AGA (electric/night storage). I really wanted white quartz or white granite worktops, but the guy who did the templating of the worktop is saying that the area around the AGA might discolour due to the heat…

Energy Club - Eon v ?!
I joined energy club and was heartened that I was likely to save money. I had dual fuel with Eon and have been with them for years, my current contract runs out on 27th January. Imagine how I felt when I started getting quotes from the Energy Club recommendations. Not one single one was cheaper and in fact was going to…

Main/room thermostat
Hi, My 'on the wall' thermo is a cheap looking 'Elite' type. Two wires in from boiler. I keep having to turn it up >'click'/boiler on, then down > 'click'/boiler off, for the rads to warm up. Boiler therms all set fine. I asked the BG engineer when he came to service, about thermos and of course he wanted to sell me the…

Burning treated wood
Hi everyone I have just had some decking installed in the garden and they trader who did it had a lot of off cuts and spare bits that I asked to keep as I may be able to burn. Am I safe doing this? I know the decking boards cant be burnt as they are pressure treated and there is only a little bit of this anyway. The rest…

British Gas free electric tariff
I am on the BG free electric tariff and have just got my bill. I was wondering if any others find the bill hard to check against? I have taken readings every Saturday at the beginning and end of the free time as I thought I would be able to check against the bill but no. There is nowhere to check on the my energy portal…

Can I have an open fire?
We recently had our chimney breasts opened up to enable us to have open fires. When we tried to test it, it filled our neighbours house with smoke :-( We are looking for a way around this... our builder says we may have to have wood burning stoves instead with a new flue up the chimney, but I would much prefer an open…
