    Yes. Stop asking.

They are a waste of time, and money (we all pay for them indirectly).

If you are hoping they'll reduce your bills, just turn stuff off/down.

And why risk locking yourself in to BG by using their smart meter?

    I rest my case....
Npower blamed increases in wholesale energy costs and the cost of delivering government policies such as smart meters and the renewables obligation.

  • if you want a smart meter then switch to http://www.utilita.co.uk/

if they arent competitive then you can just switch to another supplier & keep the smart meter

But once you switched it won't be "smart" any more.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

not necessarily as the new supplier may be able to use the existing smart meter

if the meter has to be switched to non smart mode then you still have the benefits of its energy monitoring

I switched to BG last year from this site had a Smart Meter fitted for Electric in October, they couldn't change the Gas one as it was privately owned - so don't know how that will work if it becomes compulsory.

They said I could have free electric on either weekend day after it was fitted (not true I would have had to change the tariff and I was already on the cheapest).

I could see where the savings could be made (electric shower and our double oven mainly none of which were any surprise!), got fed up with the display so it went in a drawer.

Subsequently found out the meter wasn't sending the readings at all and still had to read it myself and now I've switched to Scottish Power the meter can't be used as a Smart Meter any longer anyway.

I am due to get a new smart meter at the end of March but I think I am going to cancel the installation. This is because the current ones are not compatible with all energy providers but the new ones that will be released later in the year or next year will be. I don't want any hassles when I come to switch next year!
