Beware British/Scottish Gas

I signed up to Collective Fix 2017 a year ago. My monthly payments crept from £34.50 per month to £81.76 over the course of the year. Apparently "Fix" means the kwh price. They deliberately underestimate your usage at the start to give you a low price so you sign up then increase your monthly payment to make up for it.
They now want to charge me £97 per month. Do not sign up with British/Scottish Gas.

Two things to look at. Have you read your meter? Has your meter been read? Check the readings on your meter against the figures on your bill. If the bill figures are way ahead of the actual readings you may be due a refund. If they are reasonably close your bill is probably accurate.0

Did you think that a fixed tariff, with a monthly Direct Debit of £34.50 (approx one third the UK average payment) meant unlimited gas/electricity? - like an 'all you can eat' restaurant menu?
That collective British Gas collective fix(Feb 2017)fix was an excellent deal, and it is hardly the fault of BG that you do not understand gas/electricity pricing structure in UK.
Had you given them a realistic estimate of your gas/electricity consumption in kWh, you would have had an accurate monthly payment.0 -
I got a new quote from BG following the fix, now £87 per month. Putting their exact figures into another provider it comes out at £61 per month. What is going on here. I reckon they are clawing back the discount on the Feb 17 deal. I wonder if Martin has any comments on this?0
