DUAL RATE E7 EON smart meter. How to take final reading when changing supplier.
Hi, Had an EON electricity smart meter installed using economy 7. ie DUAL RATE. This came with a remote display that does not give individual Night and Day figures but only total Kwh reading. Ok so now Scottish power are asking me to take my meter readings. But nowhere that I can find, and I have looked, has either…

Lowest outside temperature without heating
Hi there, Please can someone advise what is the lowest outside temperature it is possible to leave a house unheated at? I recognise there are differentials for each house depending on quality of insulation, drafts, etc. I have read that temperatures can drop to -5°C outside before water in inside pipes starts to freeze.…

Powermax 1400 boiler - burner not always kicking in
Apologies for the long post but I'm hoping to get a bit of advice from someone who knows more than I do. Last week a plumber came in to replace a bathroom rad with a heated towel rack and remove a rad from downstairs in the hallway. The work seemed fine and our CH and hot water both came on as programmed that night.…

Standing Charge overcharge by First Utility
I have an outstanding complaint with First Utility about being charged an additional day standing charge for Nov-Dec. It is the princely sum of 19p plus VAT. My question is do any of you check your bills to make sure they are 100% correct? If every First Utility Customer was over charged for this period to the same value I…

Boilerjuice monthly payment plan
Does anyone use this particular monthly plan? I have such trouble affording oil in the winter and thought a monthly plan would be worth doing, as my local suppliers want large amounts each month, all year, whereas boiler juice will accept a minimum of £40 a month. Just wondered if anyone used it or had any problems with it.

Boiler de-pressurising, no leaks visible
o Hi I got a new boiler last year (valiant combi), and since had 9 months of internal refurbishments done including all new radiators, many newly positioned radiators and subsequent pipework especially in ensuite bathrooms. DIY Powerflush?
My gas usage is higher than last year and has been since December. It is a slightly colder winter but the difference in my bill is about £12 a month, despite being on a fixed tariff. I wonder whether the boiler is performing poorly as when I had it tested by previous contractor for boiler protection he said it had sludge…

How to proceed
About 7 weeks ago I started to switch energy suppliers. 5 weeks ago my supplier who I was leaving rang to offer me a better deal. I accepted to stay but because I was out of my 2 week cooling off period, my current supplier had to raise an objection with my new supplier. I was told this would be done and I would stay with…

Heating oil - help/advice needed!
Hi I moved into my 2 bed house in Lincolnshire (near S!!!!horpe) and had to buy 500 litres of heating oil for the oil tank as soon as I moved in, as the 1200l tank had less than 10% left in it. Plus the house had been stood empty for approximatey 4 months. The house is probably considered an old house but is looked after…

Buy Back Solar Panels
Any experience of signing up to Lightsource company they buy your solar panels and you keep the feed in tariff and get ownership back at end of your 25 year period. I expect the amount you actually get will be a lot less than you originally invested and I don't know how they can make their money. Sounds too good to be…

Splitting wood
Hi. Bought a large bag of hardwood a couple of months ago. I cherry picked the smaller bits for my small log burner but a lot of what's remaining is huge. I'm struggling to get it to burn unless the fire is properly roaring and some of the biggest bits won't comfortably fit in. So which tool is best to split these into…

Hi, We moved into a new housing association property in September and this property has the new storage heaters (Dimplex Quantom), whereas, in our old home we had gas central heating. Tiles behind a multi fuel burner
When we had our burner fitted 18 months ago we were told that we wouldn't need any tiles to go behind it. It has an open flue and is stand alone, i.e. no chimney. However, this week I have burned fuel not wood and have noticed the plaster behind the burner has a crack in it which has only appeared in line with me burning…

Air Source Heat Pumps - Noise nuisance for neighbours
It seem strange how all the posts on this forum relating to Air Source heat pumps are by people getting very excited by having green energy. There are few comments on the effects on their neighbours. Any references to noise are quickly dismissed as irrelevant. We have a neighbour who has installed a large double-fan Air…
