Got a conservatory we want to keep the chill off. We foster cats temporarily in there and it does get cold overnight.
We've been using a calor gas heater for a few hours until we go to bed. Trouble is it makes it very warm but its cold by the morning. Also, we burnt through a bottle (£35) in about 3 weeks.
We've also got an oil filled radiator thats electric. Doesnt get as hot. Also, it seems to have a thermostat so goes on and off. Would this work out cheaper?
It'd be ideal to leave on all night but Im concerned at the cost.
Or are there better options?

Mains electricity should be cheaper than bottled gas (http://www.nottenergy.com/energy_cost_comparison/). So unit-for-unit it would be cheaper to use electricity.
That assumes you heat the conservatory to the same temperature, though. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
What about an igloo style bed with an electric heating pad? I'd recommend a 12 volt one rather than a direct mains one eg

Many catteries use them.

Ditto with Owain Moneysaver these are very cheap to run. I actually use them to stand my demijohns on for wine making & kept the wine at a perrrfect 76F to ferment "sorry on the pun"0
