Heat Logs
Hi everyone So the weather is on the change and ive already got my supply of logs in but looking at supplementing with some heat logs. I have tried a few over the last couple of years but looking to see if there are any I have missed. I have tried Fuel Express sold in Tesco pack of 12 burnt well, Hotties, were good but…

1 Bedroom Flat Electric Bills
Hi all, We are supplied by Bulb and were quoted at £34 when we joined, but they have just asked us to put our monthly payments up to £104, which seems quite expensive. We are a couple in a ground floor, one bed flat. It has no central heating, so we use a halogen heater for a few hours every day (usually on the 400w…

Cost of LPG from Flogas
I have a 1200 litre LPG tank owned by Flogas and have been their customer for about 10 years. I agreed to a new 2 year supply on 16/8/16 at a price of 41.5 ppl + VAT fixed for 1 year. Then, the year being completed, they increased the price to 48.8 ppl (reasonable!) on 9/9/17. However since then I have had increases to…

Flogas 13kg butane
Hello. My dad has 2 gas cabinet heaters that use 13kg bottles. He uses 1 heater in the dining room as there is no c/h radiator in there over the winter months and the other heater in the lounge. I was talking to him the other day and he mentioned about connecting the cylinder and heaters up ready for the winter so i went…

Hew House - Solid Fuel Cooker Lifestyle
We've moved house earlier this year into a 4 bed detached. Built in the 70's, the previous owners have done some improvements to it. It's the best insulated house I've lived in and there's a solid fuel Stanley cooker installed in the kitchen that also provides hot water and central heating. It's our first winter in the…

Almost £3000 paid for gas never received!
I am at the end of my tether with both Toto and EDF. Here is a sad summary of the last 10 years of gross mismanagement of our energy account: In 2007, we switched from British Gas to EDF for our gas and electricity supplies and remained with EDF for 10 years. Over this period, our monthly direct debit payments started at…

Eversmart Family Saver Tariff
A newbie here....! Has anyone had any exposure to the latest type of offer from Eversmart. They promise the cheapest fixed tariff on the market and they'll add 12% annual interest to your credit balance. But, the catch is you have to pay for 1 year of energy upfront. What would happen if the company went insolvent would…

Electric heaters
I'm looking into using an electric heater in my living room instead of the multifuel stove. In the winter it costs me about £18 a week to run the solid fuel stove. That's taking into account the cost of the fuel, sweeping the chimney and buying lighting wood. I've been looking at modern electric heaters such as Fischer and…

Installing a wood burner...
I am currently renovating my new house which is a 1960s semi. At some point it has had a gas fire but when we moved in the fireplace was just wallpapered over with an old piece of cardboard stuck over the hole. I used to have a 300 year old cottage with multi fuel stove which was amazing! So wondering now if I can install…

British Gas
We have bought a progammable British Gas thermostat WPT1 to replace our non- programmable British Gas thermostat but unfortunately we cannot get it to communicate with our British Gas receiver BR2 at the boiler. British Gas have proved completely unhelpful. If any one has any advice it would be much appreciated.

Modairflow Warm Air Heating
Hey all, I've recently moved into a new rental, hopefully the last until I buy, and it has a Johnson and Starley 25-32 MK3 air heater. I can't say I know much about them, other than that it's a good 0 degrees today and within 15 minutes of turning it on the house is earm. One problem I have is that the doors and windows…

Does heating water via oil tank use more oil than just heating?
I live in a three bedroom semi detached house with oil fired heating. I’ve lived here for four years, and in all that time have used the immersion heater to heat my hot water, in the hope that it would save on precious, expensive heating oil! But now I’ve been told that if I set my hot water to come on at the same time as…

Air Source Heat Pump - INSANE bills!
We moved into a newly renovated house that has an Air Source Heat Pump. We are really struggling with high bills and we aren’t sure why. Our heating has just been switched in today for the first time since the summer....it’s been on “frost” setting all summer. The hot water is on a timer. It is a cottage and most of the…

RCD is tripping - has the smart meter caused this?
About 1 week after installing a smart meter, our RCD began tripping every night only after midnight. I had an electrician in, who said he couldn't find anything wrong and that it was probably an issue with the smart meter. I got the engineers in who installed the smart meter, who said the smart meter is not faulty, and…

Switching Gas Only?
I'm fed up with EBICO, which used to be brilliant but have become greedy. I want to switch, if I can find anywhere cheaper. But on the MSE website, all I can do is switch both gas & electricity - I don't want to do that! I;m happy with Good Energy for my electricity, as it is 100% non-fossil fuel and non-nuclear. With gas,…

Shredded paper briquettes smoke & smell
Hi all, I’ve made some shredded paper briquettes for my chimnea thing, I cut out all the plastic windows from envelopes, I soaked the shredded paper, I used a briquette maker, I dried them in my airing cupboard for 3 weeks (I haven’t had the heating on so they didn’t dry as quickly) and they are absolutely perfect, I could…
