Looking for home insurance I visited some sites that select a number of quotes for you, most of what I looked at contained the very minimal cover and a £150 excess(YOU HAVE TO LOOK VERY CAREFULLY) for what looked like a cheap price.I searched individual insurers and the best I could find was AA.Home and contents, accidental…

Broker vs online comparison sites??
I recently saw a broker about a mortgage, and whilst I was there he tried to sell me some insurance policies. Buildings/Contents, Unemployment and mortgage life assurance. I listened and asked for printouts, just to see how they stacked up. He was insistant that I'd find cheaper online, but they would not be anywhere near…

Home content insurance and keeping receipts
Evening, In the event of a big insurance claim how do you actually prove what needs replacing without receipts for everything? I'm sure we have many items of value in our homes which we don't hold receipts for. Do you make a list? What do the insurance companies generally accept? Debating whether I can destroy some of my 3…

Short Term Car Insurance
I was made redundant a few weeks ago, so I didn't renew my car insurance when it expired. I've just slipped on the ice while cycling and broken a wheel, so now I need insurance for a day to take the broken wheel to a repair shop! Where can I find a comparison site for short term insurance? There seem to be lots of…

Selling a life insurance policy
In May 1998 I took out a whole-of-life policy for £58000 at about £73 per month. The original policy was with Scottish Amicable but is now with the Prudential. At the time I was 51 years old. I agreed that the sum assured would increase each year to keep in line with inflation. However, after 10 years and a second policy…

Value of Life Assurance
Hi all, I hope this is the correct place to post this question. Recently my mum passed away and we've had to sort out the life assurance. There were a total of six policies all with the same company. Three of the policies were taken out by my grandmother in 1929, 1938 and 1939. The face value of these three policies…

Insurance trick
I was in a car accident last week, the driver has admitted full liability. I informed my insurance provider and also informed them I recently obtained a speeding penalty. They immediately increased my premium by £140 and my excess increased from £250 to £750. Is this legal? I know for a fact if I had that speeding penalty…

You don't always get NCB even though you didn't claim on your car insurance!!!!!
Just wanted to make others aware of this little pitfall that I have just found myself in! I always thought that if you had car insurance for a year and didn't claim on it, then you earned 1 years 'no claims discount' (NCD). If you had 2 continuous years without a claim, then you would have '2 years NCD' at the end of the 2…

Damage by pets
I notice that in my home/contents insurance, and the few others I've seen, exclude damage done by the family pet. As I have a nice bouncy dog, I wonder if there is any cover out there I could get, just in case poochy jumps up and knocks the tv off the shelf! I suppose I could always lie and claim I / The kids, had done it,…
