What can I use to act as studs to fasten on to hard HDPE plastic to give more traction?
Kind of a modified DIY traction mat idea. Already bought some mats but they are not specifically made as traction mats, rather mud mats to suppress the mud and give ground stabilization. See here: mudcontrol.co.uk Want to get more traction as they slip on inclines so thinking screw in something spiky so the tyres can grab…

Replacement blind plastic breakaway "thingies"?
Hello everybody. I have 4 x wooden blinds in my home where this plastic breakaway part is either snapped or is very close to snapping. Randomly selected Google image below. Why are they so expensive to buy?? The cheapest I've found so far is 2 for about £5 on ebay. So about £10 for me for a few tiny white bits of plastic!…

Live 40A cable wrapped in earthing tape in kids bedroom
We had an "electrician" do some work on us for an EICR, part of that work was removing and replacing the shower cable and incorporating an isolating switch. But he cut off and reused half the old cable and left the other half live wrapped up with green electrical tape and pushed it into an old piece of plastic conduit of…

Paint…. Is Farrow & Ball worth the price?
Moving into a new house in the next couple of months and will be needing to decorate top to bottom over the first few months. I’ve been looking at paint and wondering if farrow and ball paint is really worth the price of £120+ per 5L tin compared to the likes of Valspar Premium at £42 per 5L. Obviously I wouldn’t dream of…

Summerhouse electrics
I have an old summerhouse that has it's own electrics (own consumer box, few plugs, light). The summerhouse was there when I moved in so is probably 20+ years old. It's becoming a hazard due to storm damage. I want to replace summerhouse with a new one. Does anyone know if an electrician can temporarily disconnect…

Meaco Dehumidifer readings too low
I've had my dehumidifer for just under two years. Yesterday it returned from repair under warranty, as it was displaying an error message on the screen. I also paid extra to have it serviced/cleaned. Since turning it on yesterday I think the humidity readings on the screen are far too low. It's currently displaying 48%.…

Indoor security cameras that can record out through glass window
Hello. I’d like to have some security cameras (indoor) around the home pointing outside through the windows (at some point I’ll be able to afford wireless WiFi outdoors cameras. ). I want them to record at night as well as day which I’ve heard is impossible with some Makes, but doable with others. I can’t do any drilling,…

Isolating mains wire for plasterboard replacement
I've got a plasterer coming to put in some new plasterboard on a wall with a mains socket. I've already ripped off the old plasterboard so the socket is loose. When he fits the new board he'll want to pull the cable through a small hole so I need to remove the wires from the socket while he works. What do I need to do to…

Hybris between rafters insulation
Hello, I had Hybris insulation installed between the rafters in the loft two years ago. (1960's house, brick wall, tile roof) The installation was checked by an independent company recently, for free (cold call so-say linked to the Govt Warm Home Scheme). The chap said the felt under the Hybris is wet. Anyone any…

Is It Worth It? - Replacing 30+ Years Old Double Glazing
Hello I've googled but haven't found much about this issue so thought I'd ask here. i have 10 windows in my 1930s house and think they're from the 90s (you couldn't climb out of them in the event of fire). One large one is blown, the rest OK I think. I've had 2 quotes from local businesses- £5000 for upvc; £12000 for wood.…

Advice regarding tree on a shared boundary
Hi there, Hoping one of you guys in the know might be able to help out here, please  Our property has shared boundaries (title register states 'no Ts shown on plan at first registration'). At the bottom of the garden is a huge cherry tree, which is smack-bang on the boundary line (looks to be 'wild seeded', imo).…

TRVs
Sorry, this may sound very dumb... My heating system was originally installed when the house was built (1960s). However there are no TRVs anywhere so I have basic questions. I understand the principle of TRVs and I guess they're an improvement on manually opening and closing rad valves. But what is the difference between a…

Finding plate fixing screws and dual flush spring for discontinued cistern with flushplate
Hi all, I got this item (below) installed in March 2018 and it mostly works fine. Somehow the plate fixing screws broke a couple years ago and I never got it fixed. Now I'm trying to get it fixed and the vendor advised me the item is discontinued so they do not have spares for the plate fixing screws or the dual flush…
