HELP ! Which washing machine ?

Tasked to buy the new family washing machine I am overwhelmed by the huge variety and complexity of the models involved.
What I need is a good, mid-price free-standing machine with a 10kg+ volume, a 90 degree wash and no long cycles to do a standard wash. The shorter the quick wash the better.
What I don't want is wi-fi connectivity and super complicated tech stuff and specialised wash cycles.
Just a washing machine that doesn't take forever, does normal plus very hot wash and is reasonably priced.
I'm very grateful in advance for any suggestions.
Thank you.

Everyone will now recommend their favourite washing machine. I'd just go for a sensible price and long guarantee. I don't think simple washing machines exist any more, they all do more than anyone would want.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

There are a number of current  reviews on line so check out those that highlight the features that you want.

Using the forum is very unlikely to be as good as you replies will be biased towards own purchases

You may struggle to find many with more than 10kg capacity. Also bear in mind that most very quick programmes will have much lower load capacities.

    Perhaps look at:
    AEG LFSR74144UD
    John Lewis JLWM7043
    Bosch WGG25402GB
    Bosch WGG254Z0GB
    Bosch WGG254Z1GB
    LG F4C510WBTN1
    LG F4Y513WWLN1

Don’t get too hung up on “10kg volume”.  I’ve not noticed any difference in internal volume in my last 3 washing machines even though my current one is 10kg and the first was 7kg.
10kg means that it will spin without vibrating too much with more wet load.

Others may disagree but my goto for white goods reviews is Which? Subscription-only of course but you will often find that your local library has a sub. Decent coverage and sensible articles on what features might actually be of use.

But, of course, the best washing machine is the Samsung Series 5 WW90TA046AE/EU for about £400 (because as @gwynlas says, I'm biased)

Cheapest AEG (or John Lewis, same machines), Siemens or Bosch. More money means more features you will never use.  Our Siemes 1400 spin, 15 minute wash, 'normal' quick wash at 40 degrees takes an hour does all we need.

Our John Lewis machine has a 20min wash cycle, (and a button which can be used to speed up the other cycles) but whether that is sufficient to clean probably depends on how dirty the clothes are when they go in.

I use the 20 min cycle occasionally, but with a very small amount of liquid detergent to prevent that not being rinsed out properly. Personally I've found that using only quick or eco cycles (especially on dishwashers) means the machines don't clean themselves properly as part of the washing process and end up a bit "aromatic".

I'd personally go and see if your local library has a Which? subscription and check the reviews/features there.

Agree, I make a point of running an Intensive on the dishwasher weekly-ish. My washing machine has a suggested self-clean every so often (90deg/2hrs/heavy duty sloshing) that has kept the thing free of the dreaded door seal gunge for 3 years.

I also wonder if constantly using eco/quick cycles reduces the life of a machine. Our JL machine is  about 10 years old. Our dishwasher is 5, but working great.

A little-known (apparently) but UK-manufactured washing machine with lots of options is made by Ebac. They're famous for de-humidifiers, and located in Newton Aycliffe. The range includes sizes up to 10kg load and even options for hot AND cold fill, if desired.
There's a long, extendable guarantee of, I think 7 years parts & labour.
Of course, all this doesn't come cheap! But a heavily-used item like a washing machine should be reliable above all in my view.
Though hard to find in shops etc. it's simple and better to order direct from Ebac online or via phone call, they are very helpful and your purchase gets the extended warranty automatically as they knw all the details.
