Dentist advice needed
Background: fell off my bike when I was a kid and smashed my two front teeth (with no replacements for Christmas). Had root canals done and left them alone after that until my 30s when I decided I should probably stop going around smiling at people with ugly broken teeth so got them crowned at about £600 each. Today (5…

How to give up my e cigarette
I’ve been vaping for about 5 years. I vape a low strength- 3mg. As I work from home, I literally find it’s hanging out of my mouth most of the day. I’ve tried everything to give it up eg trying to only vape at certain times of the day but it just doesn’t work. As soon as work is stressing me it’s back in my hand. I’ve…

Alternatives to Pharmacy2U?
Are there any rivals to Pharmacy2U? I can't use my local pharmacies and so far Pharmacy2U have kept letting me down. My cousin swears by Pharmacy2U so I switched to them in September. I've had my repeat prescription delivered for fourteen years; I'm no longer housebound but it's still a big deal getting into town. Lately…

Umbilical hernia op + recovery
I will be having a hernia op mid-Jan and was hoping for some stories... I have an umbilical hernia, but it is high up, a good 2" above my belly button. The talk is that they'll use a mesh to fix everything back in its proper place. Under general anaesthetic. In trying to read up about post-op recovery, I can find very…

Dental bridge not staying in place. What are my rights?
I paid £1200 for a Maryland bridge to replace a canine. It fell out after a few days, was filed down and refitted, then it fell out, then refitted etc. The longest it has lasted is a week Having had a bit of a Google, a lot of people seem to think using this type of bridge in this type of situation is doomed to failure.…

How to ask dentist for a copy of Xrays?
Long story short, have a compromised amalgam filling that needs to be taken out. My usual dentist has completely disregarded my concerns regarding mercury and said they don't do safe amalgam removal, eg with rubber dam, oxygen mask etc, they just "drill it out" :open_mouth: So I found clinic that do and they say they'd…

Does your GP know whether or not you have collected a prescription?
Just wondered if it is flagged up anywhere on your medical record if you don't actually go and get a prescription from the chemist.

How easy is it to replace a very old crown?
Hi there. The crown's over 20 years old, and it's on one of the top teeth. There's a gap which has formed due it's movement over those years. I'm not happy with the cosmetic look, so would it be just simply replacing the crown to it's original position, which would close that gap? Thanks.

NHS veneers vs Private veneers
Looking for a bit of dentistry advice. I've been offered both private and NHS veneers for my 2 front teeth. NHS cost= £200. Private cost = £600. My question is, is it worth the extra cost to go private? Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Dental filling after check up
I had a check up last week at the dentist, they took x-rays and said they'd call if I needed any further work done. Previously they would review x-rays there and then and carry out any fillings. Now that I have to go back 1 month later am I going to have to pay band 2 fee on top of band 1 that I paid last week? Thank you

Wisdom teeth too impacted for local anaethetic :/
Hi everyone, I had oral surgery today on my top two wisdom teeth and they were successfully extracted. The surgeon refused to do my lower ones, though, because he said he has to cut into the bone and it will be too uncomfortable and painful to withstand awake :o so, I've been referred to the hospital to have both removed…

Missing tooth options on NHS
In July 2019 part of my tooth broke off. It turns out I had to have my root canal treatment done and I paid the £270 to have a gold inlay put in. 2 weeks ago the gold inlay came out after only being put in 7 months ago. I went back to the dentist and they simply drilled part of my teeth and put the same golden inlay back…

Dental problem
I am after a little bit of guidance after a dental procedure I have had in July 2019 please. I have had two front NHS crowns fitted for 15 years and decided to have them replaced as they were a different colour to the rest of my teeth now and had started to get a slight gap along the gum line. I spoke to my regular dentist…

Tooth loosened during accident
Just after a bit of reassurance! My seven year old daughter had an accident and was seen by the maxillofacial team at my local hospital as one of her permanent front teeth was loose as a result. The tooth did not get knocked out, just loosened. They said that it wasn't worth using a splint, that she should avoid using her…
