Help! Dry/Itchy Hands

Having to use soap and sanitiser so frequently has dried the tops of my hands out and they have become incredibly itchy. I have tried nivea cream and O’Keefes working hands cream but nothing is taking away the extreme itch. Is there an anti itch cream I can get on amazon or in store for dry itchy hands? Even when warm water touches my hands, my fingers and hands become extremely itchy too. I can barely sleep at night. Any ideas?

Try e45 cream, it's a medicated lotion which should moisturise and help with the itching.

You may not react well to cream. I do not. Something like vasoline or diprobase may help.
I noticed last year creams just made me worse o I asked the doctor and they prescribed clear stuff (ointment they call it rather than whatever the other is (cream?)).
    Anyway just a thought.

(mentioned because E45 brings me out in a rash or at least redness depending on where I put it!).

Coconut oil helps mine. I have a strong dislike of e45 cream too!

Does the O'Keefes contain dimethicone? I'm fairly sure Nivea does and of all the creams I've tried, my skin does not like any with dimethicone - they make it itch more. It's really hard to find mainstream cream without, though, so hopefully that's not your problem. I just mention it as a possibility in case you end up finding that nothing mainstream helps.

Before my skin turned against dimethicone, though, Aveeno really helped (lotion or cream, though cream was more effective).

Try Eucerin Urea Repair 5% hand cream. Like you, I also wash my hands a zillion times each day (even before the covid-19), I find its the only cream which doesn't wash off and you only need to apply it once a day. IMHO far more effective than Nivea, E45 etc.

I've never used the itch relief version,  just the standard e45:

If the itchiness is being caused by dryness then it's probably moisture you need rather than itch relief cream. Just my opinion.
  • Standard E45 contains lanolin.  For someone who is allergic to lanolin, it will make them itch like a mangy cur

Not everything is suitable to everyone.
I recommended this to OP because they mentioned the itchiness has occurred after the increased hand washing and sanitising. They didn't mention any allergies. E45 is a good moisturiser with a medicated element and I stand by my recommendation.

Hi, sorry to hear about your hands, I have had severe eczema at times.  I tried every lotion and potion.  Saw a dermatologist and was told to use Dermol 500 lotion for washing and Cetraben cream.   Worked really well for me because they don't contain parabens.  You should be able to get these on ebay.  Good luck.
