Where to get PROPER slug pellets? (Metaldehyde-based)
Does anyone know where one can get proper slug pellets from now (since the ban was lifted)? The ferric phosphate ones simply don't work.

Foxgloves changing colour
So this new garden of mine. Got a bit carried away last year with empty beds and planted all sorts that I'd seen and desired in other peoples gardens.I splurged on 3 foxgloves, one was yellow, one pink and one cream. To my surprise they overwintered but now they are in flower they've maintained the crowded flowerheads of…

Reusing plastic containers for plants/seedlings
I'm trying to reuse plastic food containers for plants/seedlings especially as I'm not going to the garden centre at the moment to buy containers. Can the plastic containers used for raw meat be washed well enough to be reused?

Making cash from the veg plot
Hi I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. I am self employed and my business has disappeared over night. Unfortunately I am not able to get any financial assistance as I took a year off self employment last year. I have a full tax year of earnings this year but sadly they are not counting that. Any way it means I am in…

Faulty lawn grower?
I bought some top branded lawn grower (seed, feed and soil enriched) from Homebase at a pretty hefty £20. Followed the instructions to the letter, watered the lawn twice a day with a sprinkler and I cannot see one new bit of grass after 3 weeks, especially in patchy areas. Even prepared the lawn before hand (scarifier and…

Pyracantha Root - can I cut it?
Hi all,I have a large Pyracantha Bush at the bottom of my garden;
the area in question is currently being redeveloped to create something hopefully a bit nicer, whilst being easy to maintain. I'll be using part of a railway sleeper to create a raised bed. However, Mr. Pyracantha has somewhat inconsiderately placed a root…

Do you know what plant this is?
Hello, I am at it again. This is not in my garden but I want it to be. I have searched high and low and not getting anywhere. It is growing in my son's garden, he and daughter- in-law have no idea what it is and admit to never noticing it before. It seems to be climbing up a tree but I may be wrong. Please don't let it be…

Old grass seed
It's probably a silly question to ask but does grass seed have a used by date? I spread some old seed that was sitting in my shed for a couple of years on a patch in the lawn about 4 weeks ago and still haven't seen any activity.

Easiest tomatoes to grow in UK for beginner.
Hi all At the start of lockdown I bought some tomato seeds and compost etc and set off 24 tomato plants in my shed. Surprisingly they have now grown to 6” but I don’t know what to do next... Having watched a few YouTube videos I have seen that there are over 7,000 tomato varieties. Unfortunately I threw the packet away so…

Help me identify
Hello I am basically new at anything regarding gardens. I moved a year ago to a house with a garden and it's my first one ever. I am now in the process of taking care of it: remove weeds, aireate, fertilise etc. The borders are full of stuff. Most I can see are common weeds but there are some that I just dont know, maybe…

How much food can you realistically grow in a flat?
Over the past few weeks, I've managed to do a lot. I've binged on lots of Netflix/Prime/Apple TV shows, read books, written up a business plan, and revised my ultra marathon plan, to improve my half marathon times! When this lock down ends, I will be more productive. Even my recycling is now more organised, so onto the…

Weed or seedling !
I was busy weeding one of the borders yesterday when Mr S asked me why I was digging out the seedlings he had lovingly watered the day before. He now knows what ground elder looks like!He has agreed to stick to being the lawn ranger, leaving the borders to me.

Shoots from base of tree.
I have a tree that I planted over 10 years ago with lovely soft green silvery leaves. I think it is a Whitebeam. Anyway, at the base it looks like it was grafted and this year it has sprouted shoots. The leaves on these shoots look like beech. Would it have been grafted onto a beech? Would I be able to take these shoots…

Cheapest option to sort out garden
Hi all, I would like to sort out my garden which is a bit of a state. I have quite a few overhanging trees which block out sun and constantly drop debris onto the garden. I did successfully grow a nice lawn but didn’t maintain it during the winter months. When I tried to re-seed the lawn it would grow back; only a little…

To paint or not, wooden garden furniture
Apologies if this is the wrong forum but nothing came up in a search and it seemed the most likely place to get this advice.I have an old, much loved wooden bench that I painted with waterbased garden furniture varnish. Looked good for 3 yrs with a top up. The wet however seems to have got under the varnish, and mould in…

Struggling to get my compost pile to heat up
I've got a compost area at the bottom of the garden - 3 large bins made of slatted wood - each bin about a square cubic metre. I'm new to composting so up until 6 months or so ago was just throwing green and brown material in without worrying too much about it. Of course, in so doing I've been adding loads of green…
