Awful weather - typical Brits talk
Well it's been downright awful here in Somerset for the last couple of days with non-stop rain! Just wondering how committed you lovely peeps are... have you been put off by gardening when it's raining? Are you a shrinking violet or a hardy perennial? Just a light hearted thread ☔🌧️

GreenFly - A 'flylady style' gardening thread with weekly tasks to tame your garden
What do we mean by GreenFly? Over on old style there is a long running and supportive community who focus on getting the house clean and tidy in smaller steps. A group of us thought that something similar for taming the garden would be very useful so here it is. The idea is that by doing little and often we can get on top…

Mushroom ID anyone
Found this growing under the raw fleece mulch around the cucumber plants in the polytunnel. the beds are full of homemade compost so there's always something popping up. After a bit of searching we've narrowed it down to a scaley wood mushroom but obviously not 100% sure so any help would be much appreciated. P.s it's 5"…

When do Dobbies sell of cheap seeds. I recall in a previous year Dobbies reducing a lot of seeds by about 50% old seed? I just can't remember when the sale was.

Garden Work In Progress
In the spirit of Working Mums thread, having actually seen through the eyes of anyone else [ not my own] how bad my ack garden actually looks, this is a thread where I'll be updating as I go along. You don't have to comment if you don't want to but you know when you do a job and then you take after pictures and you always…

Neighbour’s Bindweed Invading My Garden – What Can I Do?
Hi all, I like to keep my garden reasonably tidy (nice lawn, flower beds etc). My neighbours... less so. We have a wooden fence dividing our properties. The bindweed is coming underneath the fence and really starting to take over my flower beds. Whats the best course of action? - Use weed killer? - Cut/pull up the bind…

Box (Buxom) Moth
I've had a search but I can't see the answer. Does anyone have experience of these horrible little things? I've bought lures and a trap, got the nemotodes, but I don't know whether the infected plants are too far gone to treat, should I dig them out, trim them back, if I shape those not infected will it make them…

Aphid damage on Buddleja - For RHS
I have just come across this article from the RHS https://www.rhs.org.uk/biodiversity/aphids-on-buddleja You can read all about it on RHS page, but in summary Buddleja leaves affected by aphids show unusual puckering and discolouration, caused by aphids feeding on the undersides of the leaves. Over time, the damage curls…

Blank Canvass Garden - Design Inspiration Needed
Hello everyone, I am an avid reader of this thread and am in need of the collective advice. I moved house last year - downsized to a lovely 1930's semi. I had a large leafy garden in my old home but it is fair to say this new garden is rather bereft of any charisma. I attach a pic of the garden - now this is from the…

Keeping hedge healthy
Morning all! I inherited a Thorny Olive hedge (Elaegnus Pungens) with the house which I love as it’s evergreen and sturdy. However the last couple of years it’s been getting very bushy, but seems unhappy when cut back. I’d like to get it back into shape but think I’ve been cutting it at the wrong time (September). Would…

Cuttings - newbie!
So I made cuttings from a lavander and a climbing rose in late September. Before potting the cuttings, I dipped them in a rooting powder. 2 months on, how can I tell that if there are roots or are they dead?

Gardening in a drought
So this is a part of the forum I don't visit often! I'm much more at home talking about ISAs :) There are threats of drought and hosepipe bans given the recent dry spell. I collect rainwater but my barrell is already almost empty, which I have never known this early in the year. The forecast said we were due some rain…

Domestic irrigation question ; tap timer and supply pipe
I’m setting up a system. Tap timer, 14mm supply pipe going to various zones. rather than fitting tap timers at garden tap I’d like to run the supply pipe first then have timers attached to different zones once I tee off the supply pipe. so my question is if this is possible? Do the timers need connection at mains tap? Or…

Transplanting an acer shrub
We are selling our house and the sale looks like it is going to conclude within the next two weeks. In the garden are two acer shrubs, about 3 feet high and a spread of about four feet. Both are deciduous. I know now is not the ideal time to move them, but I have no choice about the timing. The shrubs have an emotional…

Using wool packaging in pots.
We have some wool packaging that came with a chilled delivery . It says it will disintegrates after 12 weeks and biodegrades completely after 12 months. I was wondering it I could use it at the bottom of some large pots to save on using so much compost . The pots would only be use in summer. Has anybody tried it.

Neglected Lincolnshire garden
I'm going to start a "progress" thread on my garden as well. I've been here three weeks and planted a few of the things I brought with me because they desperately needed to be in the ground, but it's a bit of a drop in the ocean of grass! It's about 20m from the house to the back fence, and about 35m along the back fence,…

Best low maintenance lawn seed for sandy, partly shaded soil?
Hi, I'm looking to sow lawnseed in an area of partial shade and very sandy soil. Does anyone have recommendations for a type of seed which suits both shade and sand? Thanks in advance!
