Neighbour’s Bindweed Invading My Garden – What Can I Do?
Hi all, I like to keep my garden reasonably tidy (nice lawn, flower beds etc). My neighbours... less so. We have a wooden fence dividing our properties. The bindweed is coming underneath the fence and really starting to take over my flower beds. Whats the best course of action?- Use weed killer? - Cut/pull up the bind…

Box (Buxom) Moth
I've had a search but I can't see the answer. Does anyone have experience of these horrible little things? I've bought lures and a trap, got the nemotodes, but I don't know whether the infected plants are too far gone to treat, should I dig them out, trim them back, if I shape those not infected will it make them…

Keeping hedge healthy
Morning all! I inherited a Thorny Olive hedge (Elaegnus Pungens) with the house which I love as it’s evergreen and sturdy. However the last couple of years it’s been getting very bushy, but seems unhappy when cut back. I’d like to get it back into shape but think I’ve been cutting it at the wrong time (September). Would…

Cuttings - newbie!
So I made cuttings from a lavander and a climbing rose in late September. Before potting the cuttings, I dipped them in a rooting powder. 2 months on, how can I tell that if there are roots or are they dead?

Domestic irrigation question ; tap timer and supply pipe
I’m setting up a system. Tap timer, 14mm supply pipe going to various zones. rather than fitting tap timers at garden tap I’d like to run the supply pipe first then have timers attached to different zones once I tee off the supply pipe. so my question is if this is possible? Do the timers need connection at mains tap? Or…

Transplanting an acer shrub
We are selling our house and the sale looks like it is going to conclude within the next two weeks. In the garden are two acer shrubs, about 3 feet high and a spread of about four feet. Both are deciduous. I know now is not the ideal time to move them, but I have no choice about the timing. The shrubs have an emotional…

Using wool packaging in pots.
We have some wool packaging that came with a chilled delivery . It says it will disintegrates after 12 weeks and biodegrades completely after 12 months. I was wondering it I could use it at the bottom of some large pots to save on using so much compost . The pots would only be use in summer. Has anybody tried it.

Decking stain problem
I moved 18 months ago, to a house with a fairly new deck. The railings had been varnished (!) but the deck didn't appear to have been treated with anything. It didn't look treated and water didn't bead on it. I cleaned it with Ronseal decking cleaner, power-washed it to death and gave it two coats of Ronseal Ultimate…

Garden photography
I was going to post something on the awful weather thread but thought for those who don't take part that this would be missed and it's worthy of any keen gardeners or photographers seeing it. We've obviously got to up our game to compete with this. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c80kve8kr4no I wonder if there are any…

Gardening, help needed please
Hi everyone, I have a small patch outside my house which we neglected for some time and I would like to do something nice with it. I have cleared the bigger weeds but I noticed that there are lots of ants and some very small white coloured insects that I have not seen before and it got me thinking if this soil can be saved…

how to get rid of ants!
yet again a couple of my large plant pots have ants nests in them. I started to prep one to put some seedlings in yesterday and uncovered a huge nest in one with hundreds of ants and ant pods (whatever you call them). Last year I got a young chap to over turn a stone planter to empty out the soil and I poured in boiling…

Parasol and base
A recent purchase of a £14.99 Lidl parasol and accompanying £17.99
base seemed a bargain, but on reading the instructions, I realised
the base is inadequate for the parasol; will not weigh the required
50kg and using them together could prove dangerous. (Lidl have not
replied to several queries about this!) The search for…

FREE VEGETABLES FROM ROOTS AND TOPS
I saw this brilliant idea on YouTube where you can grow free veg from the parts you normally chop off and discard. So celery, lettuce cabbage bases, onion, parsnip, carrot etc tops, parts of a potato with an eye, cut out an inch chunk around it and plant underground with the sprout pointing up. Tomato plants from the seeds…
