Patchy garden solutions

Hi all,

Our lawn is very patchy and I've seen lots of different options to kill the weeds and to reseed the grass lawn.

We have 2 dogs which obviously doesn't help the situation but I'm determined to make the lawn look good if just for a short time.

What's the best weed killer and grass seeding options or is there something that does both at the same time and is there anything that's dog wee resistant or proof?

My wife doesn't want artificial grass so what can people suggest besides that please

Kind regards mark

Depends on how patch it is, but I would expect that an easy solution won't cut.

Depending on how patchy it is, I'd consider scarifying it, raking up the thatch, then seeding, etc. We did ours at the end of the season last year and I can see the luscious green grass out the window - patch-free!

It's almost the perfect time of the year to do it also.

I don't fancy weedkiller if you have dogs that use the lawn. I have had good results in improving a lawn using growmore and regular mowing. I don't think there is anything in growmore that is too unhealthy but it may be acidic. Apply before heavy rain and the granules will disappear

    Urine is the answer.

Destroys moss and the lawn grows thick. Check the back of packets of lawn improver 🙂 but it's free.

The downside is that thick and lush is darn hard to mow.

Of course it depends on the size of the lawn, size of your family and the neighbours 😄

I took these 2 photos of the garden tonight. As you can see it's a fairly big garden but the photos don't do it justice how patchy and big

Not the answer you are looking for but… I moved into a house that had two dogs and the lawn was a mess. Now absent the dogs my lawn lush. Maybe keep them off . Sorry, but the only way.

I have had dogs for many years.

O just reseed each spring with seed from garden centre or supermarket. Go for seed for play areas etc so it is more hard wearing.

I feed a liquid feed when necessary.

The grass does grow back thicker and then tends to stand up better to being weed on

My son’s dog always goes at the edge of the patch of grass and he now has a lush border round it.

Are you taking the p? 😁

I had similar after years of building work. left the garden a bit of a lumpy an bare mess. The answer was simply grass seeds and patience - I scattered the seeds on the bald patches after the last mow in October (timing this to avoid any heavy downpurs) and left it to do its thing. Now the whole lawn is green, and it is very obvious where I sporead the seed because the grass is standing up to attention! Depite the predicetd chill, I feel tempted to mow it this weekend because if I leave it any longer it will need a machete.

Btw I don't rate your chances of keeping the dogs off the lawn if they have had free reign until now.
