Hi all,
Has anybody ever grown new grass seed in their garden whilst having dogs.
If so how did you do it?
what was the fastest way to lay the grass seed how did you keep the dogs off the seeded area and is there any specialist seed that can be bought to be more tougher against the dogs urine?

Any help would be most appreciated
Kind regards mark

A friend has just done it, she basically roped it off and kept an eye on the dog until it had grown.

Not dogs but a son playing football. I seeded then put wire mesh down over it. Keeps him off it and protects it

Thanks. Do you know if she put down a certain grass seed to be of a better strength against the dog urine

Blocking access until the new grass is growing strongly is necessary,

Rye grass, used for playing fields etc.,  is stronger but grows fast, so more cutting,

We got seed meant for fields from an agricultural merchant which worked well.

Keep a bucket of water handy and slunge with water after they pee to dilute the urine.

In my experience with up to three dogs, while the grass yellows and  dies back, it grows back thicker due to the nitrogen in the soil now, and doesn't tend to die off again

Urine is what you buy dried to improve the lawn 😉

It's supposed to be only bitches that brown the grass but it didn't happen with either of mine.
Once you get the clover and whatnot in the lawn it toughens up.

They do a mix of coarse and fine grass as hard wearing.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Definitely not only bitches. My dogs have been just as bad as the bitches . more so, because dogs tend to mark over the same spot.

It depends on how nitrogen is in the urine as too much nitrogen kills the grass , but it tends to grow back more lush.

my rabbit had the same effect and moving his run around the garden was a easy source of fertiliser.

the whole grass ended up lush and green.

Watching with interest.  Our new dog has left !!!!!!-burns all over the bottom side of the lawn and I have been wondering about whether it will ever grow back...!

We're about to plant a lawn and have a mini dachshund. Garden is gravelled at the moment, and the plan is to fence off half the lawn with small moveable fences; move the gravel; add topsoil; seed; net off to protect from the pigeons; then do the other half of the garden in spring. We will be putting clover in along with the grass seed, but I know I will likely need to reseed it every spring, but that is fine and we ill deal with things then.

I asked but she said it was bog standard seed and her dog didn't seem that interested in that bit, she preferred to dig up shrubs....
