How much or how to?
Options
Hi everyone,
I wanted to ask if anyone could shed some light on this. A while ago, I pulled some shrubs out from a long patch of grass next to the driveway. This keeps growing back with long grass and weeds. I've tried several times to kill this off, but whatever I try, nothing seems to work. Is there a cost effective way I can do this myself or how much would I be looking to pay someone to perminatly get rid of this?
I'm not great at gardening so any advice would be great.
Thanks

If it's couch grass [ long thin white roots with points spurring off them] it has to be dug out properly otherwise it will come back. And if you want the weeds to go away, you need to grow something in there because nature abhors a vacuum and will always strive for something to grow on empty ground.

Spray it with a strong glyphosate weedkiller like gallup it will take about 3 - 4 weeks to die but it will die. Easily done yourself. Don't pay some one0

Dig it out, put some thick cardboard down, cover with a thick layer of mulch. Leave it until next year when you can add more mulch or cut holes in for planting then add more mulch.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

What do you want in the area? No plants? - you would need to permanently cover the soil to widen the drive. Other plants? - see the suggestions above.

ThanksI am puzzled by this. What are you talking about? Do you mean what you called a shrub keeps returning? Or is it just the grass and weeds? If there was something there that keeps coming back that isn't grass or weeds then you need to know what it is before you can fix it. For example, if it was mares tail or Japanese knotweed, you'd have a fight on!If its just grass and weeds, what do you expect to grow on untended earth? That's natural and what colonises any bare patch of soil.
