Have had to get the tree people in to deal with a neighbour's line of Leylandii hedging whose branches were overshadowing the back of my garden. Have had the thing cut right back to the boundary but this has left me with a multitude of quite large cut branch surfaces which looks unappealing. Very starkly white against the remaining dark green foliage.
I've read that the traditional tactic of a sealant paint can actually do more harm than good - and I don't want the neighbour to lose his line of trees as they afford privacy to us both. Any ideas as to what I might use to tone this glaring effect down? Could I just use a brown fence treatment or is that stuff toxic to living wood?

They will start to darken in a few weeks, you only notice it now because it's just been done.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2

Well obviously that's what I'm hoping but I don't want to find myself in a year's time with it still being an eyesore. As much as anything else I'm thinking of the neighbours on either side of me because it's almost as much in their faces as it is in mine!0

It will silver over/darken, don't panic.

Bad news is that its unlikely the trees will grow back and have green branches on your side. Very few conifers grow out of brown wood.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
