Southern Electric don't want our money
My husband and I moved into our (new build) house on 30th May, the house is electric only (no gas) and the supplier at the time of moving in was Southern Electric. We phoned them under a week after moving in and told them we wanted to close the account and switch to another provider (British Gas). My husband followed both…

Switching E-On Tarriffs
I am currently on E-On's Saveonline 5 tarriff, but it appears their Saveonline 9 tarriff is now cheaper. I had a look at switching in online but it says there is a £30 cancellation fee for my current tarriff. Does anyone know if this still stands if switching to another E-On tarriff? Cheers.

Gas and electricity suppliers frontloading price hikes
I didn't know about this till seeing a recent Watchdog. Think your power is just going up by 11% or so? Think again. In the case of Scottish Power for example the consumer is being hit by a 30% rise for the first units. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2011/09/energy_costs_update.html

British Gas DD increased from £84 to £128
Now I know prices have gone up, but come on! This is a 52% increase. For information, this is a combined gas and electric bill. We've only been with them since June, and I find it incredibly strange that they should "underestimate" our original bill by such a huge amount, given that we had advised them of our previous…

Economy 10 and air source heat pumps
We are coming to the end of our NPower Online 19 tariff. In about 8 weeks time we will be having an air source heat pump installed and are considering switching to an economy 10 tariff. N power don't do them and I am struggling to find a list of suppliers who do. Has anyone got any experience of an Economy 10 tariff used…

Switch or not to switch, that is the question!
Ok, I am determined to get my head around gas and electric tarriffs. My current supplier is Southern Electric. I spoke to them today and they said that my gas usage for the past year is 7200 units and my electric is 1960. I am on a tarrif where I don't pay a standing charge and Southern Electric said there would be…

Scottish Power to EDF back to Scottish Power - What do you think?
I recently decided to switch from Scottish Power after finding good deal (fixed til Sept 2012) with EDF. Monthly DD from £115 pm to £84. Process is underway...... So, just had a call from my old friends at Scottish Power saying they really wouldn't like to lose my business so would I like to come back? They've offered me…

By how much are you in credit?
My last bill showed us £50 in credit for duel fuel. This was 5 September. Been with Scottish Power 11 months. May need to put the direct debit up as its definitely not enough to cover for winter. My next review is 1 Feb.

gas or electric boiler running costs
Hi there, This is a reasonably common topic, but couldn't find a decent enough answer. Because of various restrictions due to having a gas boiler on a se duct (internal chimney), I am considering an electric boiler. I have a 1 bed flat (5 radiators), if I get a 6kW electric boiler and get the econ 10 tariff, am I right to…

Storage Heaters for the lazy programmer?
I have recently moved into a flat in a listed building that has some 30 year old storage heaters that need replacing. I am investigating getting gas central heating but I am pretty sure that it will not be possible within a reasonable budget as there is nowhere that a flue can exit the flat without upsetting the…

Switching to BG for free insulation
Has anybody done this? I am with Atlantic and very happy with their level of service. Having been a BG customer years ago I cannot say the same. However, I understand that they are offering free cavity and lost insulation to customers at the moment. Going through Atlantic I have had a quote for £260 total for both. Not on…

Newbie to Gas/Electric billing

Water is inclusive with rent. Am moving into a new flat soon and will be taking on water, gas and electric. I have been told by the landlord that…
