Sales limit of £1000 for HMRC on eBay ?
i May have read this wrong, but I believe that HMRC now want tax paid on ALL eBay sales once you pass a £1000 threshold, that’s turnover NOT profit. Apparently this was introduced because during covid there was an increase in people selling from home (sourcing items to sell) and a proper little cottage industry was…

DHL did not pick up parcel at agreed time and I lost work as a consequence
I have had a parcel collection booked for before 1130am today and they have not been. It's only just 20 minutes late but I had work booked for the afternoon from 12 onwards, and as a consequence, I have had to cancel this agreed work, which sets me back around £450 (pre-tax). This collection was booked as Emergency…

Any lawyers out there - eBay scam
Last July I sold a bike on eBay. The bike sold for £155 and the buyer came to collect it. he took it for a test ride down to the end of the street, declared himself happy, scanned the QR Code to acknowledge collection and drove off with his new bike. Ebay took its cut and I was left with my £130ish - much needed! Three…

HMRC and eBay. Anyone Else Think The Thresholds Are A Bit Low? 30 Items A Year Is NOT a Lot
I can understand the financial thresholds. I don't have a problem with that and it ties in with the £1k trading allowance. I completely understand they want to catch Bodyshop at Home and we've all bought mobile phone cables from that place in Manchester that claims to be a private seller but has 2,000 identical auctions…

Watch list cleared
Anyone else had trouble with their watchlist. I probably had about 10-15 items on watch, some ended. Now tells me I don’t have any ☹️

CAN I CHOOSE WHAT I DECLARE TO HMRC AS TRADING ON EBAY
Hi, I'm getting confused. I am registered as self employed and informed HMRC in 2021 that I earnt very little online and was a semi retired housewife. They wrote back saying I did not need to fill in a self assessment online after 2022 unless asked to. My situation has now changed, I am now a widow, no income except the…

Failed delivery template didn't work
Hello, I am looking for some advice please. I ordered two items from a company online, and I was told a delivery date for these two items, however only one arrived and it was missing pieces. After two months in total there were 4 failed deliveries of the missing parts and missing item. In total there were 6 delivery dates…

Clarity Needed for 30 eBay items or £1k of Sales for HMRC
Hi I have read a lot around this topic but one thing that is not clear is the following: Do selling platforms (ie ebay, vinted, depop etc) report the seller to HMRC once the 30 items or when £1k has been met? - I guess whichever comes first. So I could sell 30 items @ £1 for ebay, 30 items on Depop and 30 items on Vinted…

Vinted login problems
I’ve been unable to log into my Vinted account as credentials not recognised, I’m sure I input the correct password and email address is correct, but as not being accepted I used password reset option. Every password I input it just reloads the ‘choose new password’ screen, no message to say what the issue is with the…

Purchasing Royal Mail Postage Online
I usually purchase my postage labels via eBay and then drop off to the Post Office. However, having sold an item through an online forum, if I go to the Royal Mail website in order to purchase postage, while going through the steps I only get an option to arrange a free collection. While a free collection is great, I'm at…

Dodgy Buyer?
Sold a Laptop Battery on Ebay. It arrived today and the buyer has already been in contact to say that the Battery Health is showing as poor. (He included a screenshot, but no evidence it's the battery I sent) He asked if I could send him a replacement, which I agreed to. He then said he is away travelling so cannot send…

Parcels over 2kg
Just paid £6.49 for a Tracked 48 medium parcel with Royal Mail, value was too much to risk 2nd Class especially with the bad weather. Looking on Parcel2go there are a few drop off options that are cheaper, although only by £1 or so, but the drop off points are all really far away where we live. What services do people use…

Does Paypal charge a fee to buy on AliExpress
I want to buy an item, which costs about a tenner in the UK, but I could get it for just over £1 on AliExpress with a few weeks wait .. no problem. I'm not sure how safe it is to give bank details but I do have an old PayPal account which is still active, although it hasn't been used since eBay stopped using it. Would…

Royal Mail refund policy
I was told today that Royal Mail will not compensate or refund full claimed amounts unless you can prove the value of the lost or broken item before it was sent? For example if you sell on eBay an item for £5 and Royal Mail lose that item whilst been delivered, they will not refund the £5, only the value of the item before…

Sell on eBay, Etsy? Firms will now report your earnings to HMRC - Why is the UK doing this?
As my question says - Why has the UK signed up to this? I've been told the USA who is also a member of the OECD has not signed up to it and don't need to do any reporting to their tax authority or has somebody been telling me duff information. If they have, please can you show me an article saying they and every other OECD…

Typical Bidding Patterns
I've not used Ebay for a long time but have just put a few items up for sale. They are fairly unusual things and I didn't get much idea of their value from searching for completed items, so started them at a low price. All of them received a few offers and then some bids. This was all overnight - the auctions started in the…

Is it possible to sell on Ebay for profit and just let Ebay deduct tax at standard rate from all sal
Is it possible to sell on Ebay for profit and just let Ebay deduct tax at standard rate from all sales. Just like they make all other deductions? Or is that too easy? Does it have to involve 1000000 hours of tax payers money to calculate tax annually at £23.08

HMRC ruling on eBay/ Etsy etc
Hi - first time on here so please bear with me. I understand the rule that you are now allowed to sell up to £1,000 worth of goods or belongings on eBay etc before you have declare on self assessment. I’m a carer for my child so am in receipt of a carers allowance of just over £300 a month which I believe is non taxable.…

Sent two items in a box, buyer claims to have received one
Like any thoughts on this situation. I sold two pairs of headphones as spares/repair. Buyer contacted me today and claims the box only had one. Sent pictures on request of the box but stated it was well sealed and still full of the polystyrene chips they were packed in. Has now started a returns with eBay and stating they…
