Vinted postage options.

I'm hoping to start selling some clothes with Vinted.

I have only just joined Vinted, and just trying to get to grips with all the guidelines. I can see that it is quite different to shpok etc. I've tried to read the info on the app, but please can I check a couple of things with people who sell on Vinted please.

With postage options, is there a way of specifying royal mail only?

(I have a post office just round the corner from on me, so that would be the most convenient one for me, also I'm not familiar with sending via other companies)

Also, I've read something about printing off an address/postage label. Is this optional, or just for certain companies?

(I have a large amount of first class and large letter stamps, all swapped to the new coded stamps, but I really don't send letters any more, so I'd like to use up some of my stamps by using them to post parcels. But if all items sold with Vinted have to use a printed postage label, its not going to help me use the stamps up)

Thankyou x

Yes you can remove any postage options that you don’t want to use , go into your settings and just block any others. The only one you can’t remove is UPS, but no one seems to use that due to cost.

However remember that RM is the only service not integrated with Vinted so you need to upload your POP as soon as you send and then you are reliant on buyer confirming receipt to get your money. I actually disabled RM a as it is frustrating to wait weeks for your money when all the other services are integrated and it’s all done automatically. Remember also that you pay more for your parcels using stamps and can’t use the RM48 service which gives you full tracking. It’s also an expensive service for the buyer so it may cost you sales.

If you have any more questions I will be back online this evening.

Thanks Soolin, quite a lot to consider then! So if a buyer doesn't confirm they have received an item (that's sent via Royal mail) the seller doesn't get their money at all? 😱. I wouldn't so much mind the wait, but what if buyers forget or can't be bothered to confirm they have received it?

I might look into alternatives then, I was just hoping to use up some stamps, and was hoping this might help me do that 😞, sounds like royal mail might not be the best option for Vinted though.

If you have proof of delivery with RM then when it shows delivered firstly ask the buyer to confirm receipt. If they don’t then contact Vinted with your POP and ask them to release your money . If you don’t have POP then buyer needs to confirm receipt, or the system automatically updates to delivered and buyer is asked to confirm , if they don’t confirm in a few days (it says 2 days but is often longer) then your money is automatically released to you a few days after. The problem is all that can take 3-4 weeks.

If buyer denies delivery for a non tracked item then you wouldn’t get the money released and buyer is refunded.

All the other options have tracking included and the system does it all automatically.

It’s fairly new to me as well, certainly less than a year and it is a bit confusing as it is entirely different to eBay. I’m finding it quite good for sales though, but you need to treat it completely different to eBay, for example I can’t sell my business stock there (no commercial selling allowed), Also, keep your items fresh, if they don’t sell in a few weeks then delete, re list but use new photos, I am a bit slow in doing that, but when I do it does seem to boost sales.

Also get used to the offer system. If you accept an offer on Vinted (and offers are fairly normal on items) it isn’t sold until paid for, the buyer doesn’t commit to anything by sending or even accepting an offer. Set your bundle discount if you are happy to discount for bulk sales, again bundle requests are very common.

All the fees are paid for by the buyer, so you do need to factor that into your pricing, what you list for, or whatever offer you accept, is what you get, nothing is taken from your item cost.

  • I find using Royal Mail ends up costing more because Vinted has set prices that the buyer chooses and the actual cost has ended up being more (this may have changed) - also you have to physically buy it as others have said whereas evri/yahoo etc the buyer pays and you just print label and drop off. Some of the devices can be no print where the shops print for you or use Amazon lockers -

on the whole found Vinted to give great and I just add in my description for buyers to choose evri as the shop is round the corner and I can usually drop off same or next day

The RM price if you choose small size (that’s chosen when you list) always covers the standard 2nd class parcel rate via the post office though, which means if you can send LL or print postage online you don’t use the whole allowance, but it still gets paid. If you choose the large size then you get paid the medium parcel rate .

Vinted though only cover up to 2 KG on any parcel size except for in some certain household categories, of which there aren’t many.

That’s another thing actually , Vinted is very limited on what you can sell. If there isn’t a category, and there are very few , you can’t sell it.

Thanks for everyone's comments, it's really helping. I'm also going to make a couple of purchases first, just to help me understand it a bit more too.
Sounds like trying to use up my huge stash of royal mail stamps isn't going to work well for Vinted, never mind!
Can I also ask what amount is the item covered for (if using evri or yodel for example) if it goes missing in the post, or is that the extra fee that they buyer pays?
Do they also send it automatically with a tracking number, or is that extra?
    Thankyou ❤️

All courier items are tracked and as long as item shows as being sent then seller is covered by Vinted and will receive payment. I only sell very cheap items, nothing more than £20 so have never researched the actual amount of cover supplied.

If you use RM then the seller remains responsible just like on any other site.
