Which banks let you change payee names?
When I set up a payee in Starling it allows me to assign a name for the payee that makes it easy to recognise, rather than the one that other banks force you to use. For example, if I setup a standing order for car finance to Audi, I can call the payee 'Audi'. If I try to do that in, say, Halifax, the name of the payee is…

Nationwide switch bonus not paid
I applied on 22/12/23, have a photo screenshot of a ‘chat’ with Nationwide that said I’d applied on the last day of the incentive. I subsequently got a phone call saying I’d missed the deadline. They said that it shouldn’t have taken so long for me to be told that and offered a £50 payment as compensation for the time I’d…

Switch - Do Bank Giro Credit (BGC) payments get transfered over automatically?
Just taking advantage of some of the switch offers out there. I understand that DDs will automatically transfer over, and I think payments in (for example I get rental income every month - I assume standing orders), but do BGCs also transfer over? Thanks

Barclays Closed my account
Hi All, Long story short, Barclays has just closed my account, with no warning or explanation! In doing so they cancelled all my direct debits and told me I must go into a branch to collect my money. I find this utterly shocking, they say it is under their terms and conditions, but I find it incredible, that they didn't…

TSB Switch booboo - what are the chances of getting a payout despite missing the deadline?
Arghhhh, so I've realised I made the fatal error of not reading the fine print carefully. I opened the TSB account and requested the switch immediately... but set it for a date that is PAST the 21 days of requesting it. I am now unable to qualify for the switching bonus despite meeting all the other criteria. :s Should I…

Not changing name with bank after marriage
My husband and I have a joint account which we've had for over 30 years. We never informed them when we got married. We both transfer money in each month for the household bills. I have solo accounts in my married name with the same banking group and they are not linked in any way with the joint account (separate online…

Lloyds standing orders
I have a couple of standing orders that are scheduled to be paid on the 30th of each month. Upon checking my account it shows these to be paid a day early on the 29th February. Obviously there is no 30th in February so for some reason Lloyds have decided to pay a day early rather than the 1st March. Not what I expected to…

Metro Bank decreasing from 5.22% to 4.97%
The welcome email said - During the 12‑month period the rate can vary meaning it can go up or down, but it will not go below the Standard Variable rate that is available at that time. Does this mean that it shouldn't go below 5.22% within the 12 months.... but now it is?

If I hold another bank account say Lloyds, that I cannot transfer…

Foreign Currency Account
I’m going on holiday to South Africa and will need to make a bank transfer of £1000 as payment for accommodation at the beginning of November. As the exchange rate is high at the moment is there any way to buy currency now to lock in the exchange rate?

Travel cards
Hi everyone, I just had a few questions on travel cards and how they work. 1. If I have a Monzo debit card. If I want to go abroad to USA and get cash in USD from the account, what options do I have? I was thinking: - Exchange pounds to USD before I leave, at a bank, post office, foreign exchange etc. - Go abroad and…

Switching a second Chase current account - debit card number?
Hi, For those of you have opened a second Chase current account - but chose to keep the debit card linked to spending on your first account - and subsequently switched this second account to a different bank, did you enter the debit card number when applying for the switch (even though it is not linked to the second…

Adding Bank Accounts to Lloyds App
Within Lloyds Banking App, there is a facility to add other accounts, credit cards and other bank accounts to the app under open banking. If I were to do this, does that give Lloyds the ability to then look at my other accounts and transactions? Thanks

Are Switching Incentives Coming to an End?
I have noticed less switching incentives in recent times and when they do appear there is usually a stipulation that the person can't have had a switch to that bank in approximately four years. Have banks decided that these incentives are no longer profitable and have decided to curtail them?

TSB Switch - What constitutes an active Direct debit?
Hi guys, Great forum and very helpful members. Just curious as to what constitutes an Active direct debit regarding the TSB Switch? I have already switched and set up two new direct debits for c.card payments but no payments have gone out as of yet. Not sure they will pay the money on this bases, perhaps. They show under…

Best bank for those on benefits.
Apologies if this has been covered. I want to leave Nationwide (reasons). Does anyone in receipt of PIP or ESA have recommendations of a bank account I can swap to? Not too worried about a payment for switching.
