Switch Questions
1) Has anyone on MSE thought about creating a Switch Board? 🤔😉😏🙄, noticed a lot of switch threads recently. 2) Am I dreaming or was there talk about extending switching to savings accounts as well?

Bank of England holds base rate at 5.25% for the fifth time
The Bank of England has held the base rate at 5.25% for the fifth time in a row. This rate is used by the central bank to charge other banks and lenders when they borrow money – and so it influences what borrowers pay and what savers earn. HSBC switch offer
Looking into the HSBC £220 to switch offer. But reading the small print, its actually only £100 up front, and then £10 per month for 12 months but to get it you need to jump through numerous hoops. It reminds me of the mid-noughties phone offers where every 6 months you have to remember to send off for a rebate. Question…

Halifax / Lloyds £1.50 FX Counter Withdrawal Fee
Just seen mention of a £1.50 foreign exchange fee when withdrawing cash on the back of a .pdf statement. I remember these charges a long time ago and as I recall they were levied by Visa - some banks used to absorb the fee and others passed it on. Has it made a comeback?

Ignore this post (or, moderators, delete it). It turns out that Santander has changed the way one logs in, but still sent me instructions for the old way, which is very confusing.

Oh Barclays! How Far You Have Fallen! Another Ex-Pat Penniless!
I have just found your articles concerning the problem Barclays has caused for ex-pats and their refusal to pay back the money they have frozen and witheld. I am also going through the same infuriating treatment and just now got through yet another upsetting phone call with some staff member who again refused to give his…

Chase cashback account and alternitives?
I opened a chase account about a year ago, simply for the cashback. I use it for most of my purchases and since opening I have accrued close to £100...so not to be sniffed at! However the new rules which come into effect from April will mean you won't be eligible for cashback unless you deposit a minimum of £1,500 a month.…

Whats the difference between these two Allica accounts...?
Forgive my ignorance but doesn't a current account have more features than a savings account? And generally speaking a current account would have a lower rate of interest than a savings account? So for purely the rate of return only, I'm choosing the current account here...right? Easy access save @…

Hello, I have a Wise account and use the features regularly. Wise has recently started advertising a feature where you can earn interest. SMS confirmation messages for secondary credit card holder - how?
Me and my wife are emigrating and consolidating bank accounts to leave a single UK bank account remaining in the UK we can use for anything we still need to do in this country. Our main account for many years has been a joint account with the HSBC, so we thought that was the natural one to keep, but we didn't have credit…

FCA 'won't stand in the way' of an end to free banking, says boss
Looks like the City Watchdogs have paved the way for banks to charge customers for current accounts in an end to free banking. The FCA have stated the regulator would 'not stand in the way' of banks opting to charge customers to hold accounts. While some providers already impose fees to maintain certain accounts that offer…

Debit Card Subscription
I have cancelled my John Lewis insurance which, for the last year was paid via debit card subscription. It was previously direct debit but they changed it at renewal. On cancellation I asked them to remove the subscription as my bank won't let me do it myself. After several emails going back and forth they just kept…

Standing Order in to a Closed Bank Account?
I'm helping sort out the finances of an elderly relative who will soon be the subject of a Power or Attorney. She has of late been confused and scarcely able to run her own financial affairs. In 2020 she closed a Bank current account, but it appears she never stopped a monthly standing order going into it, from her…
