New style ESA tax
I wondered how new style ESA is taxed? I am still receiving half contractual sick pay so am applying for new style ESA in addition to this as my SSP is ending. Is ESA taxed through my payroll, or do I have to pay it back to DWP? Very confused. Want to avoid a tax bill when I no longer need ESA as I only envisage needing it…

UC or New Style ESA?
Is Universal Credit or new style ESA better? I understand ESA allows you to continue your NI contributions whereas UC doesn't. I understand ESA is taxed but UC isn't. However, I am still receiving half contractual sick pay for which I am paying NI contributions so not sure whether I need this extra 'bonus' with ESA.

Eventually told to supply proof of housing benefit in writing. Wrote with proof still no letter. Rang again told proof not accepted. Told write again. Did that with…

Just I'm with Nationwide and its a huge hassle to get them as online it doesn't let you print them with your name and address and can't take screen shots anyway. Only option is print the statement but it just shows…

Confused by HI Child Benefot Rules
Hi people I'm a bit confused by the blurb on the .gov site about the HI Child Benefit rules.... Currently I have an income of 12k and 48k.... Out of the 48k I contribute 240pm in pension contribution (I excluded the employer contribution), 2880 per annum. Does this then make my incom for CB purpose 45120? So 45120+12000=…

Salary of £70k- should I even register for Child Benefit?
As per title. I’m trying to understand 2 aspects: - would registering fill in the gap when on unpaid maternity leave? - wouldnt the child otherwise not receive their NI when they turn 16? Background: My situation is a bit unusual, as my salary base is £70k (salary sacrifice of 13%) and on top of it I get RSUs. From…

specified adult childcare credits - delays in processing (rant!)
My wife has been claiming specified adult childcare credits for a few years now since she took early retirement to look after our 3 grandkids (started as just the 1!) and has been claiming specified adult childcare credits for that time with no processing issues. Claims are always put in at the beginning of November and…

Should we go for New style JSA or Universal Credit?
Hi All, Unfortunately, my wife and I are both out of work - my wife's work contract ended a few months ago and I was made redundant around the same time. We made the mistake of not applying for JSA/UC earlier as I thought I'd be able to land something quickly & I wasn't sure if I'd be eligible and now we can't back date…

Does adding 1 kid increase UC "housing" by £100 & reduce "earnings deduction" by £200?
I ran various [partner/kid/income] combinations & scenarios in DWP-endorsed calculators like benefits-calculator.turn2us, and for household incomes below ~£30k the difference between registering 1 kid vs. 0 kid seems to always be £315 (child element) + ~£100 (more housing) + ~£200 (less earnings deduction) = ~£623. Yet I…
