Child Benefit & Child Tax Credit ending at age 18

The last credits for the above 2 benefits came into my bank account at the beginning of August. My 18 year old finished college last term. He goes into a paid job and will start an apprenticeship for 1 day per week at our local Tech College. Do the government automatically finish paying Child Tax Credit and Child Benefit? I haven't completed any new forms so I'm presuming it just comes to an end?
Also is there any chance of claiming anything as this is education albeit not full time education. It is a recognised degree level course in Engineering.

Child benefit yes, I believe 31 Aug and if they were continuing in non advanced education you would advise them and restart the claim. Which he obviously isn’t.
Child tax credit I believe is the same, however it’s only payable until age 19.
I would add, and hopefully if I’m wrong someone would correct me. If you child tax credit finishes, you wont migrate over to UC.So it might be worth seeing if you qualify now, whilst you’ve time rather than in a panic when the CTC stops.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

You should have been informed in May about child benefit. As the child is now an adult in full time paid employment payments will stop.1

You’ll stop getting Child Benefit if your child:
starts paid work for 24 hours or more a week and is no longer in approved education or training
starts an apprenticeship in England
starts getting certain benefits, such as Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit
Check what counts as approved education or training when your child turns 16.

Help! I had a letter from HMRC Saying my child’s child benefit will stop on 2nd Sept. This is a Tuesday, I get paid weekly every Tuesday. And so this week I didn’t get her payment, only a reduce payment for my son. Fine. But if it’s stopping on 2nd - surely I’d expect to see the final payment received on 2nd. Otherwise why wouldn’t they have stopped it last week and said my payments will stop last Tuesdays date? I feel like it’s worded misleading and if paid in arrears then perhaps I should have received this weeks payment? Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you

You should have a letter from HMRC telling you exactly when and what payments you would get over the year so it would have arrived about a year ago.0
