Smell in house: natural remedy apart from vinegar?
Another question if you don't mind:D. Our house smells. Not badly, but you notice it when you come in or enter a room where the door has been closed for a few hours. There doesn't seem to be a damp problem as such, but I am frustrated that it takes at least two days to get a load of washing to dry indoors. (I have just…

Fine dining
TripAdviser has been kind enough to share the top 10 UK restaurants with me. I realise that there's a lot of gastronomic effort that goes into fine dining menus but I think it's completely wasted, on me at least. I cannot bear poncey food, give me a roll and butter or a supermarket sandwich instead any day. I've had enough…

Everyday fruit cake recipe needed
I am looking for a recipe for a 9" round fruit cake, but all I seem to be able to find are Christmas cakes. Does anyone have an easy recipe I could try please? I use the Mary Berry recipe for my Christmas cake but that would be too rich for an 'afternoon tea' cake. Thanks for any help.

Quick drying bathroom mat
I bought a bathroom mat from primark a month ago and it just stays wet for hours. It is a plush type thing and feels great underfoot when it is dry! My friend had them in her bathroom and I thought they were perfect. Now I have clicked on why they worked for her and not me, she has underfloor heating and I don't. I stood…

"Re-crackling Pork Crackling?
I wonder if any of you clever people can help me? I don't eat meat at all but my husband does, so I tend to do a big piece of roast meat every couple of months and then slice and freeze the rest for future roast dinners. Now I can just about manage crackling (although always room for improvement if anyone has any tips!)…

Stewed apples have turned pink over night
Hi all, A bit of a food question please. I cooked some apples in my aga last night. I forgot about them and they had been in the simmering oven for about 5 hours. When I took them out they were brownish but looked ok, just very stewed. So I put them on the side to cool over night and planned to make a crumble today with…

Raw chicken
I wonder if you can help. I have recently had an operation on my airways and can finally start to smell properly. My question is should a raw chicken smell? It has been so long, probably 15 years where I haven't had a strong sense of smell I am aware of the offensive, fill the room smell of an off chicken. However not sure…

How much can I save just drinking water?
It has just occurred to me that on a daily basis I drink lots of tea and coffee with milk. My oh drinks tea, hot chocolate and sparkling flavoured water. My kids drink milk, dilute juice, milkshakes and fruit shoots, and fresh orange and apple juice. Over a year all these drinks must add up to a fortune. I'm fairly good at…
