O/S Daily Thread Thursday 15th October 2015

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

I've been awake since 2am so I've finally given in & got up, I will need to get hubby up in an hour as he is on earlies this week & most of next week.
After that they are down to just 2 caretakers until they manage to recruit someone new.
We had an unpleasant experience yesterday when leaving work, a drunk came over & started to abuse hubby as he believes that the leaves in his garden have come from the trees that are on the school property, he feels that hubby should clear his garden for him, he complains regularly and is difficult to deal with as he is drunk and aggressive.
I lost another 1lb at weigh in last night, it's not much but I'm just happy it's going in the right direction.
It's time I jumped in the shower.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning Hester, and other early birds.

DH sent off to Birmingham for the day. Not due back until 2330. Then he's in surgery tomorrow and away with the army from tomorrow evening until Sunday evening. He is going to be absolutely k****ered.

Normal wake up at 0600 though, so I'm just into the routine a bit early (hence on here) 1 cup of tea and porridge wolfed, about to brew second.

Anyone able to help with a sewing machine. I have unearthed it from storage after 4yrs:eek: to sew some velcro onto thermal curtains for the kitchen door. I tried one row last night. It looks fine from the top side, but underneath there are huge tangled loops of thread. I can't work out from the diagrams online whether its the top or bottom tension or how to correct it. The top tension dial goes 1-9. Is 1 tight and 9 loose or vice versa?

I think it may need a service anyway, but if I can solve it with your help I can at least get the curtain up and get it serviced at a convenient time.

Hope everyones' day starts well. Fingers crossed fr good weather - I put the bins out and its cold and foggy here like yesterday. Turned out gorgeous in the afternoon.

Morning everyone. It's still dark outside so I'm going to watch the sunrise from my cosy bed.

Today I have to have a general tidy up and dust around as my mum is coming up tomorrow for a weekend visit. I'm going down to Glasgow later this afternoon and will bring her back up tomorrow. Whilst in Glasgow I'll collect my new set of curtains which, I think, will now go in the master bedroom as I can't face the faff of taking the ones in the spare room down - seems to involve a screwdriver and a tiny Allen key.

Breakfast will be the usual porridge and there's a steak and ale concoction to eat up.

I hope everyone has a good Thursday.

    Morning all,

Bit dark and gloomy here this morning, might be in for some rain I think. Off to work today where we are so short staffed its ridiculous, there are two of us in the busy site today and it should be four or five really !! I did over 6500 steps at work alone !

Something with chips for dinner tonight, maybe some burgers will go and look in the freezer after this.

Need to do a wash tonight and my shopping is being delivered so will need to put that away.

Right better get on, have good days all xx
  • Morning one and all. Evidence of overnight rain here but it must just have been a drizzle as no puddles about. Anyway the forecast is for sunny spells so that's good.

The phone call from the Royal Liverpool came yesterday and, sod's law, I was out in Skipton!! Anyway Mr TA, who gets featherlegged with times/dates/hospitals etc, asked her to ring me to go through it all. We go next Tuesday (20th) just for an o/p appt with the consultant who will go through the therapy and give us chance to ask questions etc. This is10.30 a.m to will mean a very early start from here. It's a long way to go just for probably a half hour appt.

The therapy itself is scheduled for Mon 9th Nov at 9.00 a.m. so staying in the Liverpool hotel again the night before. I'll stay on there alone as I can't accompany him. He should then be discharged, after yet another scan, the following afternoon. He's to avoid pregnant ladies and small children for 5 days so DD will have to sort out alternative childcare sadly.

At least we don't miss middle DGD's debut at the Bradford Alhambra. This is on the 7th Nov the day before we go to Liverpool for the therapy. So well timed.

I had a good day in Skipton yesterday but, although it was sunny, it felt quite chilly at times. I got myself some M & S leisure trousers (seconds) off the market and a spotty fleece in Hawkshead to go with them. Should be nice and cosy. We had a lovely late lunch (and shared a bottle of wine) before getting the bus home. An enjoyable day out.

No real plans for today but there will be a spot of shopping to fit in at some point. And rest of DGD's birthday present to pick up too.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))))) if needed/wanted. HESTER I sympathise with you as I'm a very poor sleeper too. Your poor DH - drunks are so unpredictable, you don't know which way they are going to turn and can't reason with them. Take care all xxx (sorry I seem to have rambled on a lot!)

Thats some itinerary he's got before him. I hope all goes well.

TA so glad youve heard from the hospital at last.

Just a quick visit before my Grandson arrives for the day but will catch up later.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

Furrybeastoz - thread showing underneath is tension too loose and needs the dial turning higher. However, if you're getting huge loops it probably means there is something wrong with the way the machine is threaded, or that the bobbin area needs cleaning out, or the needle needs changing (sk me how I know these things) - I'd try all these before adjusting the tension.

Hester, I feel your DH's pain, when I was town clerk someone used to ring and complain about the leaves from the trees in the local park drifting into her garden! Of course she'd have been up in arms if we'd ruined her nice view by getting rid of the trees, she just wanted the staff to tidy them up for her. And don't get me started about the people who move into houses overlooking lovely public open spaces and then complain about the noise of children playing. I could write a book about unreasonable people.

Anyway, I have to drive to Leicestershire today to pick up my ebay win that I didn't notice was collection only. It was a bargain though and will still be after the collection cost. I also have to pack for Yorkshire as I will be away for a week.

I had a really down day yesterday for no apparent reason and don't feel great today, hopefully things will improve.

    Have a good day.

    Morning everyone

Well yesterday didn't work out as planned as had a migraine, only get 2 or 3 a year but they are debilitating when they come :( so had to cancel taking Mum to the opticians, luckily she goes shopping with friends on a Thursday so they will pop her in. But also meant I missed my creative writing course, my tutor has promised to send over the slides though.
Anyways, onwards and upwards, am off shopping this morning to get some food for weekend away, have a voucher for M*S so will visit there.
This afternoon have the vet coming out to my horse, he hurt his pelvis last Autumn and it has been a long slog getting him well again. Suspect won't get a complete clean bill of health as is still stiff at times but much better than the original prognosis when it was touch and go so count my blessings the lovely boy is still with me.
Hope everyone has a good day x
