O/S Daily Wednesday 14th October 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and getting ready for work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, I’ll wake him shortly to get up and ready for school.

Getting light, dry but chilly – have put heating on, but will switch it off again shortly. I have a load of washing ready to go on the line, I’ll check the forecast before putting it out.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg/salad, ice cream or treats from the tins for dessert. Tonight should be venison meatballs, but I didn’t get them out to defrost, so will get them out now and hope that they are defrosted in time, if not, I’ll have to have a re-think.

Yesterday work was horrendously busy in the morning, as we did have systems but then did become quieter midway through the afternoon. I’m doing a different job today but I’m only working until lunchtime. I then need to do several jobs at home and I “should” have a bt engineer coming out to see if they can sort out why my broadband connection keeps dropping off intermittently. Seems very strange that since I’ve really complained and told them I want them to do something the connection has been much better and not dropping off so much – just like some years ago when I complained repeatedly and then all of a sudden it was much better, we’ll see……

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Much cooler here this morning too, we had the heating on for a while last night it was very cold yesterday with a sharp wind, I must admit it was nice having a bath and getting into bed while it was warm, I will set it later so it comes on a for a while in the mornings too.

Going to mums for dinner tonight I think she has got belly of pork so really looking forward to that.

Need to do a wash tonight and hang on the airer, and will have a sweep through, really going to miss GBBO and Dr foster tonight ! I hope they replace it with something good !

Topsy good luck with the job !

    Have good days all xx

Morning one and all. Thanks nmlc for kicking us off again. Pleased you are making some headway with your broadband problem at last.

Another nice forecast for today, albeit a bit chilly. That sounds promising as I am having a day out with my friend today. As usual, it's Skipton, on the bus, for a browse of the market and cs and, most important, a nice lunch and a bottle of wine to share! I am making my third attempt at buying a floaty scarf for my SIL. Really pretty, white with faint grey owls on. I bought one and kept it for myself! Bought another and gave it to my oldest friend for her birthday with some perfume. If I can get another today it might, this time, get put away for my SIL!!

A day of visitors yesterday for Mr TA. His DB called up in the morning and his cousin in the afternoon. Then, and I was almost stunned into silence by this, his DSis rang in the evening to see how he was doing! It's "only" 3 months since her last call!!! Just need a call from his other DSis and it'll be a hat trick by his siblings!

No meals to plan today. I made a casserole out of the pork steaks yesterday and there's enough left to warm up for Mr TA's tea. He's now managing a much bigger breakfast and doesn't want much lunch, so he'll just have a Fresubin drink and a goodie whilst I am out.

Have a good day all (((HUGS)))) if wanted/needed and BB I am so very sorry to hear your sad news about ex SIL. That's no age is it. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone.

The sky is a very pinky-grey, quite pretty but I have no idea what'll happen next.

Curtain pole is up and the ready made curtains look fine. Funny how curtains change the whole look of a room.

This morning I have to get a couple of things from the local hardware shop so will try to get in early. Then I will do a check on my online students which takes ages.

TA - have a lovely time in Skipton. It's a fabulous town, I used to visit the swimming pool there quite often. Never got to the market though.

    Happy Wednesday everyone.

    morning

its cold and wet down here in the South East, and I have put the heating on for the first time this autumn, lucky I know compared to where some of us are

am struggling to go out in the cold and go for a swim these days, I enjoy it whilst there, but I find it hard to motivate myself, changing rooms are chilly too, bbrrr.

however, I was given a cross trainer and have set up in spare room so will have a go on that in a bit I think.

some sort of leftovers from the freezer tonight to use up, before heading off to gardening club tonight

    stay warm and safe everyone

  • Good morning everyone. Hope everyone is well and hugs for those who need one. No been online much as our internet connection has been terrible recently :( Hope yours is sorted soon to mnlc.

I have been keeping busy having a good old sort out all around the house and yesterday I decided to clean the beech dining table chairs. They were starting to look a little grubby so I started cleaning them and decided to give them the full treatment so first they were scrubbed with soapy water and a green scouring pad, then I oiled them with a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice and then waxed them with Briw@x. I had started doing this inside but the solvent in the wax made me feel a little dizzy so I dragged everything outside and did it there. Four of the six chairs are now done and two need to be finished. I had to stop as it started to rain and I had to bring everything inside.

This morning I shall have to dash around the house and get done all the jobs I didn't do yesterday. I've made good progress so far and after drinking my coffee I shall continue where I left off. SC chilli for tea today.

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Morning everyone.

Why is it that when I have a day off I am wide awake at silly o clock grrrrr. Today I am having my hair coloured going from blond back to brown, too much like hard work being blond. lol

Mr D came back home about an hour ago, he is feeling unwell, he has gone back to bed. Dogs bedding is in the washing machine, her bedding gets washed twice a week, should be ready to put on the line soon, hope the weather stays dry.

nmic we are having venison meatballs for dinner this evening also, hope they are good. Quick shower for me and off to the hairdressers.

Have a good day all. xx

  • Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one. Another bright but cold one. I have a lady coming this afternoon for her first quilt lesson, she wants to join the group, so I need to try and get her up to speed not so far behind the others.

OH went for his second hearing test yesterday afternoon, I did a quick shop at Lidl first. Pick DD2 up and gave her a lift home with veg we had taken in for her. We ate at lunch time, so poached eggs on toast and fruit when we got back.

    Morning everyone,

Cold but bright walk first thing with the dogs, first time this Autumn that needed my gloves on but not surprised as outside thermometer said just 4 degrees!

Yesterday's shopping trip was successful and we now have two cosy sheepskin rugs beside our bed, even better picked them up in a clearance sale so celebrated by having a yummy cheese scone and coffee :)
Also picked up a cheapo fleece to go with the dogs to the kennels when we go away on Friday, their normal beds are bit cumbersome to send with them but worry they will be warm enough so it's now on their bed getting "their" smell :rotfl:
Am off to see my DM this afternoon, she needs to pick up her new glasses and I also want to do some tidying in her garden, she does pay a man to cut her grass but struggles now with anything but doing her pots, fingers crossed it stays dry.
Hope everyone has a good day x

Looks like a nice day so far and hoping to do some more laundry to dry outside.

Middle dd is coming round tonight for a bite to eat and to pick up a parcel so will dig some quorn pieces out of the freezer and cook it with veg and cous cous for a quick and hopefully healthy meal.

Older dd is picking me up at seven to go to slimming club so want to go out shopping later to make chocolate dipped strawberries to take as it is a taster evening.

Taking other older dd (twin) out tomorrow for a look at skincare as an early birthday present. Her sister has already got two jackets and a shoulder bag yesterday. At the moment I am trying to think of a low syn birthday cake without much success.

    Hugs to all

  • Morning all,

Cold again this morning. Had a dental check up first thing, thankfully everything is ok for now. Popped into Wilkos and picked up a few bits. Got a bodywarmer in the Oxfam shop for DH for work, just hope it is big enough...

DH said he'd cook dinner tonight which was supposed to be roast. He has pork chops and I have chicken breast. He sent me a text saying it would now be Chorizo stir fry as he couldn't see the chicken breasts in the freezer! I have an upright freezer and the meat is in one drawer - how hard can it be?

    Happy hump day :)
