Hi all, I've got an American recipe for chocolate chip walnut cookies I fancy trying. It calls for 2 'sticks' of butter - does anyone know how much this is? Thanks.

what type of wool do you use for gloves ?
My lovely MIL has agreed to knit some gloves for me for a Xmas present this year - she'll provide the time if I provide the yarn. I have absolutely no idea about all things woolly, so I'm hoping that one of you lovelies can advise me whether the following would be suitable for knitting to protect my digits this winter:…

How do you polish your woodblock floor ?
Our 'new' house has a woodblock floor in the hall and one of the rooms (NOT posh parquet). I have never had one before and don't know how to look after it. I 'washed' it (on all fours) with a slightly damp cloth and when it was dry sort of skated about on two dusters to 'polish' it. Not a technique I can see myself doing…

What foods go together - book?
Not sure where to put this post, but thought here was as good as anywhere! I have had recipe books before, but I just don't use them, I have never ever followed a recipe in my life, and rarely measured anything - I tend to cook just with what I have in, and pretty much by instinct and sometimes trial and error. Lets face…

preventing limescale?
I am about to buy myself a new espresso machine. I live in a very hard water area, and would like to know what is the best way to try and prevent build up (I will also descale, but would prefer not to have to do too frequently) I have a water filter on my fridge-does that remove any of the calcium? Saleswoman in the store…

Has anybody got any experience of one? Any ideas how I could get it cheaper? I was…

Storecupboard use up - crackerbread ideas?
Hey everyone. Given the wealth of knowledge on this board I'm hoping someone can assist me in my storecupboard use-up. I've managed remarkably well so far and have managed to make what seemed like odds and sods of nothing in the cupboards stretch 3 weeks with very few additions (last night's effort was a homemade pizza…

Smell of wee in patent leather shoes help?
Hi all, I'm sure the answer is here somewhere, feel free to merge my thread later but i'm sort of on a time restraint and am useless with the search function! My 4 year old had an 'accident' at school yesterday. By accident i mean sometimes if she is enjoying herself too much she leaves it too late to get to the loo! The…

Roasting times
This isn't strictly money saving, excpet I dont want to have the oven on for too long ;-) but can anyone help me with timings for my roast dinner?
