What foods go together - book?

Not sure where to put this post, but thought here was as good as anywhere!
I have had recipe books before, but I just don't use them, I have never ever followed a recipe in my life, and rarely measured anything - I tend to cook just with what I have in, and pretty much by instinct and sometimes trial and error. Lets face it, when does anyone have all the ingredients in a recipe to hand, unless there are a real foody, or they have bought everything in specially.
What I was wondering is whether anybody knows of a food/kitchen book that rather than having specific recipes, has advice on what foods go together, and what herbs/spices go with what foods etc. Just some pointers, so that I can get on and make my own dishes.
Thanks.
Olias

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's new book, 3 Good Things, and the accompanying tv show might be the sort of thing you are looking for.."Thou shalt not forget that money is only money and not character or fame.”

Thanks all, I had a look at the flavour thesaurus, and think that might be the one! Has anyone read/used it and can give a personal reccomendation?
Would quite like one with pics though, so might have a look at the HFW one as well, though I think that is more recipe based, but I guess I could just pinch the general ideas from it.
