I saw this thread once before now cant find. I have started slow cooking again now the evenings drawing in nothing better than walking into the house and the smell of a nice tummy warming stew creation mmmm I also find it very cost effective than the oven and then hob etc etc. I have 2 young kids who love to come home to a nice stew and the smell of the bread machine along side, plus hubby is a courier and often late at this time of year Id like to do more in slow cooker - help recipes please or just good ideas - I read you can use for stock never done this I always make stock on a sunday when home but willing to try.

We always do casseroles (usually sausage or steak and mushroom) in our slow cooker, we work twelve hour shifts and its great to come in and not do anything just eat whenever you want! Apparently its good to do a 'roast' in as well but we havent tried that yet!on the road to recovery..:o0

Last time I used mine the casserole went burnt/dried out any thoughts what went wrong? Put it on at 7.30 when I left and home just before 6pm. It's put me off using itDebt free

I do a chicken overnight in mine, put on last thing before I go to bed.a handful of chopped onion,a few carrots sliced and lay the bird on top and sprinkle with herbs and a dollop of Lazy Garlic I like to pierce the breast and squirt some lemon juice in there and lay a couple of rasher of streaky bacon on top.half a cup of water drizzled on top ,put the lid on switch it on low and forget about it until the morrning.Chicken just falls off the bone.I don't eat the skin anyway so I'm not bothered that its not crispy.I get the chicken out and drain off all the liquid into a pyrex jar and when its cold and solidified skim off the fat (I use the fat to roast potato's in ) the jelly underneath is good chicken stock which I save in a freezer bag to use when I make home made soups. The bones are the only bit that gets binned from my clucker0

Tonight I'm doing a chicken, leek and carrot casserole in my crockpot, with stock, mustard and cream. 20-30 minutes before the end I'll drop in some dumplings."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Debtmess if that happens it is either because you didnt have enought liquid/any but as a casserole I would say you had it on high and def for that long it should have been on low. Check you have a setting switch and if you are going to be wanting to eat a cass in 4-6 hours then high if longer than that then use the Low setting and make sure you lid is on perfectly not tilted in anyway. I use mine for that sort of duration and the cass is fab but did once end up with the same result as you and it was because I switched up to high to kick start things and forgot to turn it down :-(0

My meals don't change that much but I cooked more than I realised so I can have two more meals from what remains of it...I did a casserole but not sure what the difference is compared to a stew. It was lovely.
It had just about everthing in it. Sliced mushrooms, celery, onion, carrot, potato, cauliflower, broccali, turnip, Brussel Sprouts, leeks, chopped up sausages and some turkey steak with gravy."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. For some reason whenever I cook in my slow cooker it all tastes the same, any stew or casserole seems to come out with that 'slow cooker' taste. Any one else have that problems?June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

I expect you you have the newer large Slow Cooker.
We find that the older smaller ones seem to cook on a lower heat.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
