Non-cooked food
Hi all, was wondering if I could pick your brains for some ideas. We're moving into our new house over the weekend and we don't have an oven yet so we need some ideas for food that doesn't require any cooking. Apart from the obvious sandwiches and salads route, I'm a a bit stumped. I've stocked up on crisps and biscuits as…

This should probably be in the food shopping board but it's so quiet there... Has anyone taken advantage of the £10 off order? Or do you order with them anyway? Was thinking of using this but not sure what to buy, so recommendations/experiences would be great.

I've got a glass dining table that I was thinking of selling but it's got some scratches in it (nothing too deep but they are there). I've been told that Jewellers Rouge can help with the scratches and I just wondered if any of you lovely peeps had actually tried it? Didn't want to do to the expense of ordering some if…

Paper Shredding
We are often being told to shred old documents with personal information on them to protect against identity theft: well, a few months ago I had a boxfull of such papers and bought an electric shredder. It was dreadfully noisy, messy and broke down after a short while and only did a couple of pages at a time. Then I found…

Freezing and Defrosting Bagels

a slug in my lounge
I'm being greeted every morning by a silvery snail trail on my lovely carpet in my lounge. Short of sitting up with a shotgun all night, does anyone have any suggestions for getting rid of said slug? Humane or clean if possible - I don't want to also be scraping up gunk. Thanks in advance, and please feel free…

Cleaning black mortar
The house next to ours has recently been sold and the new owner are completely guttering the place. BEEF - is 'Brisket' or 'Roasting Joint' as good as 'Braising Steak'??
I want to make Daube of Beef (link below), but am trying to save money without losing taste/texture... Is there any reason (loss of taste/texture, etc) that I shouldn't use chopped up BRISKET or chopped up ROASTING JOINT instead of BRAISING STEAK in the dish?? http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/da...en_92028.shtml
