Dirty tiles
Hi all, I hope I'm posting in the right place, I just thought that this seems to be where the most knowledgeable people are! We're in a rented flat at the moment and in the shower are a few cracked tiles on the "lip" that you step over to get into the shower. They were cracked when we moved in, however I've noticed that…

Dishwasher virgin - help!
I am lucky enough to be having a dishwasher fitted at the mo. So the big question, (and I realise I may be opening a can of worms here) is which dishwasher powder to you all recommend? It's a slimline 450mm wide one if that makes any difference. I'd like to go for a balance between price and effectiveness (DM swears by…

Do any in washing machine stain removers work? Plus general laundry advice please?
Hi I was just wondering if anyone had tried the stain removers that you add to the washing machine and are supposed to "stain insure" your laundry? I suppose I'm thinking of Vanish specifically, but there must be others that I don't know of. You see my OH has started bringing home his chef whites for me to wash as the…

Help! Pear and Apple Spread recipes please
Hi everyone, I bought some Pear and Apple Spread recently, which I remembered buying years ago and making cakes with. Too late, I realised I have no idea where the recipe went that I used to make, and I've discovered I don't really like the stuff on its own. Does anyone use it? Actually, I'd quite like to use it to make…

Beijing Capital Sauce?
On a takeaway menu, what is Beijing Capital Sauce? I have travelled through China but know that chinese food in China is very different to Chinese food here (both of which are delicious I must say). And the menu has hoi-sin as separate option so its not that (as sometimes these do get confused)

Money saving tips
Here are two ideas - apologies if they are repeats! 1 - have found that kitchen/rubber gloves will last a lot longer if you first put on a pair of disposable, thin plastic gloves underneath. 2 - a good way to clean the grouting between tiles is with a toothbrush dipped in liquid bleach. Do this at night, and by morning the…

Hello OSers! Hoping you can help with a cleaning problem. I have untreated wooden counters in my kitchen. I have treated them badly and they have ring marks on them, possibly from tins and mugs.
