What pastry for pasties?

ello :)

I have some left over vegetable curry from last night that I fancy turning into pasties for tomorrows lunch ... think there's enough for about 4 medium pasties ... was gonna cut a chicken breast into 4 and put 1 piece in each :)

So my question is ... I really don't want to go out and buy pastry specifically (but will if I have to) what pastry can I make at home?

I've got plain flour, unsalted butter, stork marg and the usual baking ingredients ... but no lard? Can I make a suitable pastry for pasties from this?

Thanks :)

Just an idea but why not cut meat into chunks and make a plate pie instead. Then it won't be such a problem if the pastry crack/breaks a bit?
  • I use puff pastry or home made flaky pastry
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

  • I have used all stork pastry in the past and it has been fine. Just leave it in the fridge for 15 mins to cool off before you roll it out and it helps with the shortness.

Otherwise, a plate pie is very easy to make and less faffing involved!

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

I have got the recipe for cornish pasty pastry, i brought a cook book from a lovely bakery in Padstow that is famous for its pasties, i havent tried it yet though. Am I allowed to post it if i say where it is from? I dont want to break any rules.
