OS Daily Thread - Saturday 15th August

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 15th August! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS chums
Happy Birthday Donny-gal!
Hope you have a great day.
Bitsy - You poor thing. But you will have some nice new storage jars that will stop anything getting in and will save you money in the long run too. We swear by Lock'n'Lock in this house.
N9eav - Those bubba burgers sound delicious, I am hungry now!
Mioliere - France sounds so idyllic, I read your description to my OH and he is so jealous, he would love to live there again. Plus - oh yes, woodsmoke is definately a sexy smell
teresita - Hope your daughter feels better soon hon - nice to see you posting again though

halight - Sorry to hear the twins aren't well and hope they feel better soon, it's so frustrating when you can't do anything to help.
fairy - Please look after yourself honey, we all worry about you!
PenPin - So glad you got out for your meal and that you feel better. It sounded delicious.
helyg - I have to admit I can't watch The King and I right to the end as I end up crying too much. It's a wonderful story though and how nice to have a night out at the theatre.

Had a really quiet day yesterday which was fine as I was very tired, having been up chatting to Tristan for hours. I thought it was hot here in Devon but Montana has had temperatures over 100 degrees for weeks now, but his house at least is fully air conditioned, even the stables where his ranch hands live has aircon. He is a great boss!
Had home made fishcakes for dinner last night. My first attempt as my OH has always turned his nose up at the idea but we had left over mash and I refused to let him throw it away! I just added some breadcrumbs, tuna, shallots and a pepper from the garden, and a pinch of dried chillis from last years crop. Plus an egg to bind. Then I just dipped them in flour and milk and breadcrumbs mixed with a little stuffing mix. They tasted really nice I have to say, and nice to have something other than pasta or salad with a tin of tuna.
Tonight (if I can think that far ahead) will be home made sausage meat plait. Looking forward to it as I love sausagemeat. Tescos had Jus-rol puff pastry half price so I caved in and bought some as life is too short to make your own puff pastry! I will prob add onion and stuffing mix to the meat too.
Warm gentle
to anyone who needs one today.

Hi there - thanks for the hugs Diva, I could certainly do with it. I'm new to this site. Today we're definately going for a no spend day! I'll be cooking for the freezer, the children will be playing outside on their climbing frame - from ebay or walking the dogs, DH will probably be on his computer all day - no change there then! If it's a nice day then we'll go to the local museum - we have annual tickets so no cost. Wish me luck !!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning everyone.
Welcome esmf73 :j Hope your NSD goes well.
Diva - I googled for some kilner jars but they don't seem to be as big as Ikea's. I ended up looking on Lakelands site and saw the Lock n Lock ones. They do a 4ltr one that would suit my bulk buying bread flour purposes so I think we'll have to head off to local town (oh joy) and see what they've got in stock.
H has gone into work so it's just me and the moaning kids. They sure have got out of the wrong side of the bed todayNot sure how the weather is going to pan out but I think all washing is mostly up to date so will dry indoors if necessary.
We were supposed to be going on holiday today but due to H working etc we've put off going down til Monday. H's relatives (who we are staying with) said that was a wise suggestion as M5 was chock full of cars yesterday and loads of delays so hope to have a good run down on Monday. So going to do some preparation for packing (if kids allow) and go on the great tupperware hunt.
Have a good day all OS or not. Hugs to those that need it.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning.
Coffee and a paracetamol and I should be something like normal in a minute or 2.
BBQ went really well. The food was delicious, even though I say so myself. It drizzled all night, but everyone crowded around a fire I built on the fire pit and under the cover thingy. Later we encouraged one of the guys who does pubs and club gigs to get the guitar out and so he played a number of good songs to finish... American pie to close at midnight and everyone left happy. Got to pick up all the cans and bottles for recycling now.
Still wet and horrible today. I was supposed to be going to the Steam rally, but I don't know that everyone else will want to walk about in what must be mud by now? We shall see.
(The turtle cake is a cake in the shape of a turle, there were no turtles in it)

Morning All
:j:beer:May Happy Returns Donny Gal:beer::j
Glad the barbeque went well N9eav.
Very cloudy here at the the moment but the weather forcast for the next few days is good .:T More washing will be done & I will have to do some ironing.
I will be mainly pottering around the house today doing a bit of everything, it will be lovely with no phonecalls, and as DS is caravaning with the inlaws it will be very quiet. Will catch up on the 2nd episode of Economy Gastronomy and give the house a nice tidy.
OH will probably mow the grass if his knee is up to it, it felt much better yesterday luckily. Planning a barbeque for dinner tonight though that may change - must also get next weeks meal plan done and shopping ordered. Think will pop to the butchers for a roast for tomorrow.
Going to have a nice surf now, have a great Saturday.

Happy Birthday Donny :bdaycake:hope you have a great day, and get spoilt rotten :beer:.
Bit gloomy here, hope it brightens up as we have my sisters bbq tonight, about 50 coming, although they have put up a marqee (sp) type thing.
Sis and dd went shopping yesterday for the food, they must have phoned every 10 mins ' can you bbq chipolatas' 'shall i get frozen sausages' etc, sis is veggie and has been for about 25 yrs, so she really did not know, they also bought 2 x small bags of charcoal, to keep 2 x large bbq's going all night
I am making up the salads today, I am doing a cous cous and roasted veg salad, I have corgettes, sweet potato, peppers, onions and garlic to roast. Also a potato salad with chives and onion, and a coleslaw and a tomato salad, I am going to do 2 large bowls of each, cos the party starts at 6.30, and goes on till the early hours.
I have a large towel wash on at the moment, will hang it out and hope for the best. Need to hoover through and mop floors, we also need to get my bbq and garden table and chairs over to my sisters, she needs all the spares she can get.
Halight hope the twins are feeling a bit better today xx
N9eav, glad your party went well xx
Diva your fishcakes sound loverly
Have good days all xx0 -
MSD - well, you could always visit us here if your DH gets the urge to return to France! We're in department 79 (Deux-Sevres) in the south west and yes, right now with the sun shining, it is idyllic!
Donny-Gal - :bdaycake::bdaycake::bdaycake::bdaycake: Have a brilliant day. (It doesn't look, so far, as if my DGC will be sharing your birthday, but there's still the rest of the day to go yet!)
Halight - hope the girls are getting better.
Well - no sign of the baby. Skyped the expectant couple last night (she, poor thing, was lying naked on the sofa because she was so hot - no, we didn't get to see her!). They're just patiently waiting for now - not much else they can do, is there?!
Anyway, we sort of thought we'd have left for the UK by now, but I need to go and do a bit of shopping to get us over the next couple of days. We've been invited to a barbecue tomorrow so I will have a day off from cooking.
I did the chicken and biriyani from the Econ Gastron programme the other night - it was truly delicious and will be a regular Chez France from now on!
Anyway, off before it gets too hot out there! Hope you all get the good weather they've promised for the weekend!

Diva - the fishcakes sound delicious and I like the idea of adding stuffing to the breadcrumbs:T
Had a lie in this morning as I woke with a headache so took some pills and went back to bed. Feeling slightly better now.
So far today I have
put a load of washing on
cleaned through downstairs
sorted some paperwork.
Later we are hoping to go fishing - DH will fish and I will sit and read my book and have a nap:D he's in need of some relaxation ATM so hopefully this will do the trick, it all depends on when a chap is coming to collect something DH's been selling.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend, I'll pop back later xDo what you love :happyhear0
