Paper Shredding

We are often being told to shred old documents with personal information on them to protect against identity theft: well, a few months ago I had a boxfull of such papers and bought an electric shredder. It was dreadfully noisy, messy and broke down after a short while and only did a couple of pages at a time. Then I found out about a local company that does shredding, it said no job was too small, and for just £11 they shredded the boxfull and 2 extra bags full of such papers too. Quieter, as well as money saving and time saving.

an alternative to shredding which is definately NOT noisey is to soak all the papers in water them squash them all together-no-one would ever be able to prise any information from them lol

I've got lots of paper work to get rid of after having a bit of a clear out.

Just been trying to tear it up..but it's an impossible task.

I'm def going to try your suggestion.

    Thanks

  • I enjoy shredding, in a weird way lol. Kind of therapeutic :)

Plus the shredded stuff is going to be fuel for our stove. Bring on junk mail, it saves our fuel bills!

Happy_camper....what do you do with shredded stuff to turn it into fueL? Have lots of stuff which could be shredded but sort of soaking and making bricks from it I can imagine how I could use it in fuel stove in kitchen.

  • It just all seemed so easy to pick up a phone and have someone take it all away, and it was in files with metal bits, etc., which would have made soaking or tearing it up a bit too much like hard work!

You don't want someone to steal your identity but you are happy to give personal data to people you don't know and allow them to take it away to shred it:confused:

A decent shredder costs about £30.

I will stick with my £6 shredder it works well and has so far last a couple of years.

Have to say I agree with you :D

Our shredder (crosscut) cost £19.99, and we've had it for about 3 years or more now. After the initial 3 days of shredding the mountain of outstanding papers ( when it kept cutting out because of overheating :rotfl:) it now takes seconds each day to shred sensitive documents. It's not even that noisy, and for 5 or 6 seconds, I can stand it easily :D

I'd take a lot of convincing before I'd hand over sensitive papers to a total stranger. ;)

    I was thinking that too.
